Trade in questions
Hey fellas, so I'm thinking of trading in my frs for the new rs 1.0
My car isn't stock so I was wondering if I should take off all my mods to get it appraised at the dealer or just leave them on and take them off once I deliver the car to the dealer. Mods - trd drop in filter - jdm toms taillights - 5 axis rear spoiler - 2.5inch perrin catback - mtec shift springs - perrin fatty shift knob - beatsonic shark fin antenna - 6k hid lights - Buddy club D-1 race spec coilovers - 18x9 yoshihara champions - 225/45/18 with less that 300 miles - blue muteki lugs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You should take your coilovers/wheels/tail lights
Thats all you really need leave the rest the rs 1.0 looks really good of the factory Also make your FRS as stock as possible and sell parts seperately that you won't be transferring.

I'd return it to stock, personally.
If you decide to go back to stock, are those red or clear Tom's and how much? lol

If you leave that stuff on, you will get nowhere near what they're worth from a dealer, and you will possibly get nothing at all for them. The only reason to do that is if you just don't want to bother with taking it all off and selling it yourself and are willing to take the hit.
In stark contrast, some people are getting nearly all their money back out of their mods by listing them in the classified section of this site. In some cases fools are paying more for used parts than they could get them for new on eBay, Amazon or one of the discount vendors. Buyers are apparently too stupid to shop around, and if you point out that someone has priced his used item higher than new, your post is deleted. That's good news for you, though, since you can list your used mods at new prices and sell them to suckers, of which this board apparently has no shortage. |

Pull everything except the visual mods (spoiler and shark fin). Not only will you probably not get the price of the mods back you might get less than rightful trade in value with the mods because the dealer and future buyers might may suspect it has been abused or raced.

Agree with Rampage completely.
They had a fairly heavily modded FRS traded at the dealership I go to. Asked what they gave him (I am on a good relationship with them) and they said "lower then normal" because they figured it was "heavily used". They were just going to send it straight to auction because they didn't want to deal with any problems. |

The only reason I can see for not reverting to stock is pure laziness and no care for $
Any aftermarket part you leave on will not increase value and can potentially hurt value Why wouldn't you put every single part back to stock?

I would take off anything I planned on putting on another car. Also you want the trade-in value of how the car will be when you trade it in so tires, wheels and spoilers with be noticed if nothing else is.

What rampage said, i'm personally very weary of any used cars with lots of mods. I have seen enough people buy modded cars from dealerships that were nothing but problems because people improperly installed mods or beat the cars to shit. So even if you did do everything right, the car will still carry that stigma (and honestly i assume as a general rule that the car was traded in because the mods caused problems that they didn't want to / couldn't afford to fix).
Not everyone is like me, but the dealership wants to appeal to the largest consumer base possible. So take the mods off, give it to them as stock as possible, and part out any extras you have left! |

You have two options IMHO. Try to sell it privately with most of the items on and hope you find someone who has similar taste as you and is willing to pay more. Wait a few weeks and then if nobody bites you go back to stock.
The dealer will give you nothing, and in many cases may offer less for non-stock. You are also in California where you get zero tax break on a trade in. I would try to sell it locally first if you can. It could save you thousands. |

You'll get the most money back if you take off the parts and sell those separately but one way or another, a dealership won't give you a better price to negotiate with to start off with than poor condition and it's up to you to bring that value back up. To them, aftermarket reduces the value of the car. Good luck with your sale(s).
