Anyone interested in a small run of custom wheels?

I am looking at possibly getting some VMR V810 custom drilled in 5x100. sizes avail are 18x8.5/9.5/10 However, this would require a group buy arrangement to be cost effective. Just wondering is anyone here would be interested in a small batch run? Flow form wheels, cost per set (if group by) probably around 1k a set.

Excuse my ignorance, but why these over Forgestars?

excuse my ignorance but it's not really custom wheels. It's just the current cast wheel lineup they sell with just redrilled PCD.

The closest looking Forgestar I see on their site is the F14, and they're not even that similar... Plus, there's only a handful of factories that have the machinery to practice this technology, so many different brands are all made by the same small set of manufacturers.

they're not re-drilled... They start completely un-drilled, so in a sense, it would count as a custom wheel. Just not the complete HRE "custom." Having a factory mill out a wheel to a specific specification that's not normally mass produced is custom-enough.

If a Work Emotion CR Kai wheel is made at Factory A... and Factory A then uses the same process and mold to make a "replica" Emotion CR Kai, but mills off the trademarks and sells it a less than 1/2 the price, does it become an inferior wheel? I could care less about replicas as long as the quality is the same.

Where are these wheels made?

And I guess they don't quite look like the Forgestars. Perhaps more so the Raijins. Though these seem to have a fatter spoke than the Enkei's.

Really though, almost every wheel mfg has a version of this design. Its one of the most common.

That enkei is pretty much the standard DTM style 7 split spoke design found on euro cars. Everyone from BMW to BBS makes variations of them. VMR has the VB3 which is similar as well.

As for the v810's place of mfg, I'll have to check, but most likely TW.

I still really like the V810's though... perhaps in bronze or sunken treasure powder coat.

Coming from experience, not because of an elitist mentality. Everybody has a different goal though so can't say much more than that.

Yes, many replicas are poor quality. However, if you're in this niche of the industry, I'm sure you can agree that if you DO know the source of the product, then the quality will be there as well. For instance, if you can find the factory that produces all of Invidia's exhausts... you'll probably find an exhaust offering that is *very similar* to an Invidia system minus the Invidia logo. Would this exact system be inferior? Factories that are contracted to product 100pcs will often produce much more, and sell the extras on the side. None of these are patented or protected designs, so it's perfectly legal as long as they're not violating trademark law (branding).

Cheap =/= crap. You can have high quality AND low price if you know where to look, but it's difficult to find.

As for VMR Wheels, they've been in business for quite some time, serving the euro market. VMR wheels are even showcased on Berk Technologies' 1-series time attack BMW. I've also owned several sets in my past vehicles and they've all held up superbly well. Easy to check their references in the euro car scene.

Images of this NOT on a sedan? I'd be interested to see if the thicker spokes look good on the FRS/BRZ. Probably more so the BRZ.

VMR is the Rotas of European market. But instead they copy BBS/Advan/Enkei wheel designs mainly.

Not that cheap, I can assure you that. Rotas are banned from certain track events, VMRs are not... but then again, HREs are banned in some events too, so that really doesn't mean much. Rotas are made in some of the cheapest China factories (been there, I know which ones) but VMRs are actually made in a factory that caters to large name brand JDM companies (been there too). I can't say much more due to trade secrets, don't believe me if you don't want to, I don't really care.

Everyone copies everyone else... especially the split 7-spoke design. Enkei Raijins? RELEASED IN 2012? tons of manufacturers had this design prior.

Funny thing is... if "VMR" was changes to some Japanese name, and the website was all in Japanese, I think there would be much less hate/dislike, even though it could easily be a "midrange wheel market company" in Japan.

Regardless, this thread is going

EAS has it on a Z4... no fitment for BRZ (which is why I started this thread) so no pics on a BRZ...
