Where to love in San Diego
So I'm getting stationed in San Diego next month... I'll be working in Point Loma down at SPAWAR off I-5. Where should I live?
I don't mind a 15-20 minute commute. I just want somewhere with low crime (don't want the FRS stolen) and closer to activities. SD is so big and everything I've seen has been crap apartments. I don't know where to start. ***Damn autocorrect... Where to love? Seriously... Ugh. Countdown to someone saying Hilcrest. Last edited by solus; 09-10-2014 at 03:50 PM. |

I would say in la mesa...
i would say la mesa is a relatively good area that's not too expensive and about 10-20 minutes from spawar depending on traffic.
I actually lived on a power boat at shelter island when I was there. Jaden p.s. Anywhere in San Diego is a good place to love though ...except hillcrest, depending on your tastes... hamburger mary's has good food though

Most definitely not enough for a house w/ garage. I wanted to be around $2000... What are you looking for. Clairemont and especially la Mesa is farther than I wanted to be. I want to be closer to stuff

Black's Beach.
Is that still a thing? I lived in Chula Vista when I was stationed on NASNI. That was 20 years ago. Everywhere is stupid expensive. |

Welcome to SD! Fair warning, once you move here, you're never going to want to leave...lol.
As far as your question, it all depends on your budget. Everything is 15 - 20 minutes away from each other in SD so you're safe wherever you go. I'm going to break neighborhoods up into sections based on their demographics Families: Mission Bay Clairemont Mesa Kearny Mesa Bay Ho La Mesa (further inland) Tierrasanta (where I live - very quiet/family oriented) Hippies/Beach Bums: Ocean Beach Pacific Beach (younger crowd) Point Loma Hipster/Urban: North Park Hillcrest (gay community) South Park University Heights Bankers Hill (city living) Little Italy Downtown (expensive...like super expensive) there's plenty to do in SD, and we have a growing group of 86 enthusiasts. Thanks everyone, I found a spot down in Point Loma... Central and close to stuff. I didn't want to be crowded downtown but also didn't want to be out in the outskirts. Looked at a ton of places decided a town home down in point Loma was best. Close to beach, downtown, and only like 5 minutes to work.
So you'll be seeing my FRS around town... After my long drive down from Seattle in October. |
