Aim smarty cam and obdii data

I am wondering if anybody is using the smartycam from aim and managed to overlay oil temp and water temp ?

I see here
That their data logger can collect all the data for the scion FRS, but I wonder if that can be overplayed real time on smarty cam or if it only works using the PC software

If anyone is using the smartycam, I am curious to know which setup you have.
I am tempted to go the aim way but I really want video overlay in real time

Also I wonder if I need the aim solo or the data logger.
I don't care looking at the data while I am driving. But i want to review the data right after my sessions.

First off, you would need the Solo DL if you wanted to get oil and water temps as that data comes in over OBD II. The regular Aim Solo will only get you GPS data essentially.

Second, I'm not sure I see the appeal of the smarty cam at $1000 when you could simply get a Go-Pro, or equivalent for ~$300 and then some $50 dollar software like www.racerender.com to do the data overlay. That's what I use and I'm very happy with it. You can add whatever data the Aim Solo DL captures to the overlay.

For example:

I don't know how well the SmartyCam does its job (e.g., is the synchronization as good as real time implies), but overlay in real time would enable you to get out of the car and start doing your review right away. I've always wished I had that available to me.

If you can afford a smarty cam and a solo DL, get it. It does realtime overlay like nothing else. No fidgeting with synchronization of gopro video or remembering to record. You can just jump straight to each lap or fastest lap for analysis. I have 2 gopros, and 2 other cameras... I'm ready to sell them all to buy a smarty cam.
The only downside is you can only use 1 camera. So you'll still have to play with the video if you want multiple angles...or just line up your smarty cam with the rearview mirror.
