Rear fog brake strobe
OK, I've had the rear fog wired with the parking lights for over a year, and just drilled a second socket for the brake light. Figured I'd get a strobe module for it to, but I'm not happy with how it looks.
I'm using Sylvania LEDriving 168/194/2895 white LEDs, and the LSC-100A strobe module from SuperBriteLeds. Basically the light never goes completely off, so the strobe effect is barely noticeable. I'm not sure if the led isn't reacting fast enough, the module is messed up, or what. Other videos I've seen using this module have a fer distinct on-off flash. Thoughts? So... you have 2 bulbs in there and only one is blinking? Are you sure it's wired correctly? I'd take it out and bench test it first. Perhaps you have some wires crossed.

Only one should blink, the other is wired to the parking lights, which are off in the video. IF both bulbs are on when the brake is pressed, then the car must be supplying a current to the parking lights as well...I suppose that is possible. Multimeter test should tell me that answer. If that is the case, the third brake light is isolated, so I may look at tapping into that, instead of the brake light at the tail light.

If you wanted a 'noticeable' blink, you should have left out the running light function. If the blink is too fast, it will blend withe the running light. That and a single red 7443 (or 7440 for solo function) based bulb in red is brighter with a better color match. There really aren't that many LED's on a t10/194, so they probably aren't throwing out enough light.

when the "blink" is activated, power from the running lights circuit must be cut, otherwise as in the video, one bulb blinks, while the other remains lit constantly, which in turn gives the appearance of a dim "blink".

I took out the strobe module, and replaced it with a standard turn signal flasher, and this is the effect. First is with only the brake lights, second is with the parking lights on.
[ame]http://youtu.be/bcD5999hFOo[/ame] I'm going to add a relay to turn off the parking light in the rear fog, when the brakes are on, in an attempt to make it more visible at night. |
