Dampening Road Noise from Wheel Wells

Has anyone tried carpeting the wheel well plastic to dampen the noise coming from there, if anything, to dampen the wind noise generated from that area instead of placing heavy dampening material to the inside under the carpet?

Talking about the plastic liner in the wheel well itself, or inside the engine bay and trunk?

If you're talking about the actual wheel well liner, how would you keep the carpet from mildewing and rotting as it gets soaked in water and mud and the blood of helpless animals? Worse, how do it you keep it from growing things?

You could probably put a coat of spray-on bed liner on it and make it heavier. More weight=less vibration=less noise. Plus it's designed to be exposed to the elements, so it wouldn't turn into a science project.

I think marine grade "carpeting" would work, or sings sort of felt-like material like some euro cars have.

Many European cars and Infiniti's have a special fender liner that looks and feels like a felt or marine grade carpet. Works extremely well, but I have no idea what it's called.

Sincerely,

Zach

I have put down a sound dampening material in my BRZ. The entire rear seat an the wheel wells. noticeable difference for sure and worth every minute of my time.

OP, Pm me if you want more info. I am on my iPhone and don't have pictures on hand.

I used a product just like dynomat (dynamat?) but cost a fraction of the cost. Used two whole rolls in the rear half of the car. Each roll weighed 5lbs.

I ordered 25sqft of 50mil matting from Amazon, will be doing doors and floor/wheel well/roof. Will add some ccf in the space between headliner and roof as well. I've done complete interior on both my old e30 and Sti, so I'm familiar with what needs to be done.

However, these doors are pretty solid already, so not sure I will be s extensive this time. Might skip trunk though, depends on how much material I have left over.

There's few threads on this, but I am also going this route soon.

Ordered some b-quiet materials to do the floor and isolate trunk noises
