What audio system does your 86 have?

I'm just curious who has what audio system, I bought my FRS with the basic pioneer audio system both because of price and I was worried that a big media screen might be bright and annoying while driving. I'm curious what the other audio systems are like, both the premium and aftermarket auto set ups.

The basic Pioneer system is ok, I like the display and it connects well with my iPhone most of the time. I have noticed that if I press the End call button it often will disconnect my phone and then a second or two later reconnect. It's annoying when answering call waiting. The most annoying thing about it is probably the speed dial selection set up, it's bad and annoying. In order to make a call from the programed speed dial one must press the call button, then turn the dial to speed dial, then press in the dial, then press the speed dial number, then press call. It should be call button, speed dial number, call button.
There is more to be desired from the basic pioneer system which is why Im curious about the set up of others.

Not entirely related to your post, but is there any way to change the "wallpaper" on the stock Pioneer unit? The "pink lens flare sunburst" screen doesn't do much for me. I'd rather have, say, a picture of the car, or my dead pet goldfish, or just about anything else on there.

I think I ripped the OE stereo out in the first month. Sold it for more than the replacement stereo I got.

I thought about ripping it out altogether and replacing it with something useful like the machine gun switches, rocket propelled grenades or martini mixer...

What do you have now? I've thought about trying out that Ca-Fi Dashlinq4 that everyone raves about, but I was waiting until I got my OEM Audio configured the way I wanted.

not sure the exact model, a pioneer double din screen. I have a similar one in the FJ. It was probably about $280

I'm running a Pioneer AVIC-8000NEX, JL Audio 900/5 amp, Diamond Audio S600S front 6.5" components, and a JL Audio 10W6v3 in an Integrity Concepts box. Completely transformed the audio experience in the car. I would suggest that you try to see if there is anyone in your area with different setups that you can listen to. Some people are happy with the stock system, while others want more.

Stock Pioneer, works awesome with my iPhone all the time! You can always do a voice command dial with your iPhone and let it connect automatically if you don't want to push a button...

Stock FR-S 6.1 touch system, set to FR-S, Feel, and Treble/Bass two points from max. Then added 500w powered 10" sub for $200 to fill out the low-end. Sounds great around 30-34 volume depending on the song genre, nicely balanced. Great for people not wanting to drop a ton of money on a system.

I believe the base pioneer system has the same power, just a different head unit style.

I have a pioneer avh-x5600bhs, jl audio 10 in sub, alpine ktp-445u and infinity speakers all around. Do not necessarily recommend infinity due to low impedance.. Still working on tuning mine to perfection. For example adding bass blockers to the 3.5 this week to convert them to midbass only.
