GT 86 beats Porsche 911 Carrera

According to this article I just saw: http://www.carthrottle.com/watch-a-s...3-porsche-911/

Sorry if this is a repost. But is this BS?

Not BS, but the GT86 is on extreme performance summer tires (think Z2SS, Rival, RS3, etc.)

If you put the 993 on similar tires, it will be faster again.

That being said... you spend way less money getting new tires and brake kit, and you'll get results better than a stock 911.

I guess, if you want to compare to a test run from seventeen years ago, on a base model Porsche. Sure.

In 2004 a 911 Carerra S did a sub-8. What's it going to cost to make up an extra thirty seconds on the 'ring in a GT86?

The most important thing in racing is

1/ Driver skills
2/ Tires
3/ Vehicle Balances
4/ Engine performances
5/ Brakes

You need to have all of those to have a fast car which can finish in 1st and 2nd. You can have the fastest car in the world, and if you have bad tires + Bad driver = the car just gonna crash....or not going to perform anywhere close to "Race"

I can hype any 86 with tuned suspensions with the best driver on that specific track to vs any MC.laren P1 with worn out winter tires and an entry lvl driver with everything stock. Then I can brag about how 86 can win, or get to be so close to the lap time of that P1.

86 is one of the best sport car out there to be honest. It is the best of anything 200 hp range. But if you buy a sport car because it was said to have done fast 0-60 or fast lap on the track....you are delusional. Why ? Because it is you, who will own, and drive the car, and not that some one who executed those times, and moves on that track.

You can have all stock drive train 86 racing each other. At the end of the day, the one who finish 1st would be superior to driving, tires, and suspension setup. That is the strongest proof of variables in racing

Interesting question... I think you could do it for $10k.

$5,500 - Intercooled supercharger + ECUtek + custom tune
$2,000 - Full catless exhaust
$600 - Oil cooler
$30 - Camber bolts
$500 - 245 width 595 RS-R tires
$1,000 - 17x9 RPF-1
$350 - Hawk DTC60 pads
-----
$9,980

And now we're several thousand over the cost of a (admittedly, used) 996 Carrera S.

I actually allotted $800 for a tune in the budget. That's the cost for a quality local shop to tune a boosted FR-S around here.

I agree on labor though. You will have to put the supercharger in yourself (and exhaust/brakes/etc.)

At the track last weekend my 71 Porsche 914 was easily keeping up with a stock FRS.
He could not shake me.

The 914 had hoosiers and a bit more hp than stock, but it was still a close match.
So tires can make a HUGE difference.

914 = 120hp/2200 lbs = .055 hp/lb (mid engine w/ racing tires)
FRS = 176 hp/2800 lbs = .062 hp/lb
