Metalic clunk from brake booster

H all,
My July 13 86 GTS has developed an intermittent issue when the brake pedal is released you hear a metallic clunk along with a slightly sticky brake pedal.
This clunk happens before the pedal reaches the travel stop upon release.
I have disconnected the booster plunger from the brake pedal lever and manualy pushed and released the booster plunger and the clunk is still evident so it must be in the booster. This issue has only developed after about 10km's

Anyone else had this or read anything on this forum ?

Thanks, Geoff.
