I don't know what the benchmark is, but I like this idea. mpg + avg. speed. It's a great way to advance aero, suspension, efficiency and power all in one test. I can see this becoming a record people want to break in the future.

consider a few things:
- the prius plug-in can run in EV mode (pure electric mode) for about 11 miles (not a drop of fuel consumed) - the video claims the ring is 12.9 miles - so the car would only need to run in hybrid mode for about 1.9 miles - the prius plug-in can run in hybrid mode and get approx 50 mpg - if you do the math, the car would do the lap at around 339 mpg add a few tweaks such as aero kit, low rolling-resistance tires, strip some weight off to increase the range while in EV mode, then you significantly jump to really high mpg's. put a tesla on that track, record easily broken.
