Question 11 Common car buying mistakes

Even though many of these probably don't apply to most of you here, I thought I would share this article to remind you about what you should or should not do when buying your next car, whether it is the BRZ/FR-S or anything else:

Link to "article":

http://www.forbes.com/pictures/ehlg4...ying-mistakes/

Reason I bring this up is because I am sure many of you here have been highly influenced into "NEEDING" these cars by the hype going around, especially in forums and reviews, as I was once.

I realized I was forgetting about my needs in a car, what is really worth and whether or not I could wait. Turns out I could not wait to get a new car, but I did change my mind on what car to get, which in my case turned out to be a good thing.

My questions to you, after reading the pages:

If this will be your only car, does its size make sense for your lifestyle or work?

Do the car's features make up for the price?

Will you be doing a thorough test drive before you sign?

Are you rushing to buy because you want to be one of the "first" in the neighborhood with this car?

Are all of the reasons you are rushing into buying (if you are) the car worth the possible consequences of buying a first model car, such as recalls, etc?

What are you giving up from your current car or what you wanted in your next car in exchange for the fun in the car you are buying?

That article is very true. When I was looking for a new car years ago I found out about ft86 because none of the cars available were what I wanted. So now that I've waited all this time I can break a rule and pay MSRP for the car to get what I want ^_^

If BRZ hadn't come out I'd probably end up in a much cheaper used car like an Si or likely not even bother buying anything at all.

This sounds like my father giving me advise on whether or not I should jump on the first model of the BRZ even though I already own a very reliable car. So going through my options I realized I'll wait one more year then see what happens.

So the article is somewhat a wake up call to those who really need some guidance when considering to buy a new car.

That's a good list. I wish more buyers & car dealerships would abide by them in order to get people the car they need instead of making barely thought-out decisions.

Very good read. I've actually covered all the topics that were listed there in my car buying process. I don't spend a lot of money on something without doing extensive research on it first.
