WRX FA20 Swap?

So now that the WRX (and more) has a factory tuboed FA20. Would it be worth it to swap an engine from like a wrecked one in? If so would it be that difficult/expensive because they are the same engine? Just curious.

It won't fit. The turbo would be too low.

Why not just buy a turbo kit at that point? A new fa20 engine from a wrx is going to be very costly. I feel like you can rebuild your engine and buy a turbo kit for the same price or less then a new fa20 from the dealer.

I was also thinking this was a good option. Wouldn't dream of it for a couple more years, but a factory turbo motor would be very desirable. As people crash their WRX's engines will became available.
I have heard there are clearance issues, but I'm sure someone will solve them. Just wait, I bet anything we see this swap successfully done very soon.

this thread has been covered many times already. The FA20DIT does not have PI injectors and uses a less sophisticated injection system that has already proven problematic in other platforms. The turbo is too low and the exhaust is on the wrong side of the engine. The advantages of this factory turbo are what? It has lower compression? buy pistons. it comes with a turbo? not a good one and the intercooler is on top.

am I going to buy these and swap out the wastegate actuator, turn up the boost and stuff it into a buggy? you bet. But not into our cars and id still take an FA20 with a garret over it.

This gets asked about once a week. To avoid the future frustration, would it be possible to sticky this?

Nope. And wrx guys are swapping our parts into their cars. Max hp on a di only wrx is 400hp without our PI. Starter is on the wrong side, exhaust is on the wrong side, turbo won't fit in the factory location, ecm/wiring harness doesn't swap over because of the canbus, intake manifold won't work...the list goes on.
