Buying a New Daily Driver, it's a Journey! FR-S Story

So I picked up my Monogram FR-S about a month ago (Late May, 2014). Back in High School, well 10th grade to be exact, I fell in love with Subaru's turbo platforms. When the BRZ was released, I quickly fell for it as well. I wanted to get my hands on one of these subaru's so badly, but anyone who has ever done research in buying a used subaru sports car knows, these boxers aren't cheap, even with a ton of miles. So on the cheap the best I could do is to buy a Mazda 3s hatch.

'The broke mans N/A impreza hatch? lol'
I thought that would be a cool first car, seeing as I had to pay for it entirely by myself(18yrs old). Bought the 2004 Mazda, long story short, it was a LEMON! I saved every dollar I earned for about 7 or 9 months, worked my butt off for those wheels, and well, I learned how to drive stick on that car.

SOLD the mazda for a little bit more than half of what I paid about 48 weeks after buying it. #moneypit #ouch!

Moving along, so now without a car, in NJ, as a valet, full time(driving from location to location) and in college full time, I NEEDED a car.
Now, I work hard and love cars so I wanted something nice. I thought:
135i, 335i, A4, Wrx, Brz, GTi, Speed3, Focus ST, Cooper S, Cayman(67k for $21k),350z or 370z so on and so on. Every modfriendly sports car for under $30k

I then decided, I want a brand new car! So I pre-ordered a 2015 WRX, quickly that deal didn't work out, tried with two dealers.
It's hard buying a brand new sports car at 19 yrs old without a co-signer.

So without any hope and a ton of cash saved for a downpayment, I stopped at every dealership down a major highway in NJ. Finally I said I'll look at toyota to see what's on their trade-in lot, I saw that new black FR-S and I wanted it. I also test drove a Mini-cooper S but I wanted a subaru for so long so I went with the FR-S .

Now if you have ever seen a monogram you know it's pretty much a FR-S with a BRZ Limited interior.
So this was my only way of getting a subaru without buying a subaru!
Shout-Out to any self-made person under 21's that bought themselves cars!
Here's my Scion-baru

haha I'm in the same age group as you- in college, worked my ass off for a hefty down payment on the car, and paying it off every month. A lot of people underestimate our age group, probably due to the amount of ignorant, immature young adults out there. (Also another reason why insurance is crazy for our age group) ... Digressing from that mumbo jumbo, just wanted to say welcome to the community and would love to see where you take your car (mod wise)!

LOL, I only park with cones at work. We have tons of them, with a lot of stupid and or drunk customers.

damn i give you credit for only being 19 and getting the car on your own

im 24 and this is my first brand new car, it was hard for me to get it on my own but i did,
full time employment, salary + commission with good to excellent credit.

dealership i went to had to pull some major strings apparently to get me approved, dont know why it would be so hard

ended up closing the deal 3 days later on the car, put down a nice down payment on the car and even then they were asking for more money on the down payment so they can approve me...

North Jersey! I go to school with a bunch of people from Budd Lake. I make a good salary and I have little but excellent credit which is what really got me approved. Never missing a payment is important I guess.

p.s. Some time in the future, me and 3 other friends of mine(all ft86 owners) want to do a NNJ-FT86 meet.

Yesterday, July 1, installed The Injen Cold Air Intake System
Before Buying: I was unsure about going with the Injen system, I've heard good things about them but I want nothing but the best for my car.
Before Install: System looks great, a few of the mounting tabs were slightly bent; it took a little work to get them back in place.
After Install: WOW! This sounds great. Very Loud for an intake. I tunnel blasted last night, sounds amazing; maybe the best on the market. It sounds like I have an exhaust system on it. My exhaust is stock.

P.S. This intake has lowered my MPG, because I keep flooring it.
