Crawford power blocks install and first test.

Just got my Crawford power blocks yesterday and did the install last night. i did the install solo, so didn't take pics during, but I was pretty easily able to do it by myself. Having another set or 2 of hands would def make it go fast but isn't needed. I can stake some pics of them installed in a little bit. I didn't put the fuel rail covers back on yet, they were kind of annoying, but not too bad.

Upon first start I noticed the cold start revved a bit higher for a bit longer than normal, then tried to drop a bit, but came back up, I probably should've disconnected the battery to reset the ECU to try and re pickup the BPBs. Will do this later as well.

First drive drove about 10 miles, with a huge smile the entire time. This is how the car should feel. Getting on the gas between 3k and 4.5k used to do absolutely nothing, now the car actually pulls through in the lower range. Power feels instant and smooth until I hit about 5k where it REALLY jumps up in peak, and the drop off in the top end is barely noticeable. At one time I looked down and was at 80mph in 3rd gear not even at redline yet.

Only drove to a meet, then right back, was already dark and late, didn't want to bring attention and not be able to easily see sneaky cops, so didn't really get on it too much yet. Will def give an update after a little more time in it today, but I would already def suggest this to anyone who is either staying NA or not doing FI for a while.

My car is running perrin CAI and inlet tube, GFB pulley kit, borla UEL headers, ARK catless test pipe, perrin overpipe, berk dual exite muffler delete and new wheels and tires, and now the BPBs.

Before the addition of the BPBs, there was a night and day difference driving my car over my roommates stock BRZ. Now there is a noticeable difference between my car before and after the addition of the BPBs, so my car compared to the stock is like a whole new car now. Couldn't be happier!


*UPDATE 7/1*

Purchased an OFT, flashed to stage 2 OTS map, on the way home felt a big increase in throttle response and power and much less TQ dip.

When I got home, I loaded up the BPB stage 2 beta map, and it really leveled out the dip, the power is available almost everywhere.

Have a little less than 1/4 tank left, when the light comes on, I will be filling with e85 and testing.

I have the dash command app on my ipad mini, and linked to the OBD2 port on my car.

running the virtual dyno, (which I know is not accurate or trustworthy, but i care less about the number and more about the consistency and increase range) I got these numbers from 3rd gear pulls from 2k-7.5k, and did 3 runs on each before getting the numbers. each time the numbers were within +/- 3hp and 2mph so i think its pretty consistent.

stock BRZ - 202hp

FRS with borla UEL, ARK test pipe, perrin overpipe, berk dual muffler delete, perrin cold air intake, perrin inlet tube, and crawford power blocks with no tune - 213hp

After stage 2 UEL map non BPB - 243hp

After BPB stage 2 beta map - 258hp

Will run again when I fill with e85 half through the first tank, then again half through the 2nd tank, and then will run on a real dyno to compare numbers.

Stock ECU as of right now. Starting a new job in 2 weeks, hoping to pick up an OFT and flash for e85 shortly after.

For the money, these were more bang for my buck then my borla headers, but they don't add the sound and rumble of headers, so I'm still glad I did headers first. Just food for thought.

Any links to that info? The power blocks shift the power band out of the higher rpm range already. Cars on stock tunes can level the power band back out a bit on the top end after tuning. From what I've been reading, people with existing tunes who add the BPBs also lose a lot of top end, and can be thrown off even more then on a stock tune depending on how the tune was set up. This seems true with e85 as well, once tuned for e85 there are still gains to be had. Unless I missed some information...

That could be why I didn't see that lol. That's why I want to get an OFT first so I can play around with it before getting flex fuel and ecutek. I also plan on going SC within the next year and the blocks I've been readying don't go well with FI, but we will see what happens as times goes on. The engine is still new the blocks are new. If I need to take them off when the time comes I will. For now they are amazing and they put a huge smile on my face. And I'm not even tuned yet. So I still have power to unlock. This makes me happy

As the OP mentioned, the car feels great.
I guess I don't mind a minor loss at higher rpms for that low rpm powaa

A few posts down people are asking about the muffler deletes. I have the berk dual exit muffler delete which I believe tested to add the most hp and top end, I wonder if that would help. He also says that there were still gains from 5k to 6.5k, and that people who primarily run e85 might not like it. I've never ran e85 so any bump in power I think might be welcomed. I don't mind the low end power especially since there was 0 low end power stock. Feels like a completely different car so far. Def worth it to try it out and see which I like more I think.

Also I'd love to see a dyno chart of BPB on e85 tune vs w/out BPB after 6500 rpm.
Just to get an idea of the lose.

I was thinking about that when Shiv brought it up. With the BPBs, when upshifting at 7k, are you in the meaty part of the powerband? Or is it better to go to redline even with the falloff?

Should allow more flexibility at the track. If you have to stay in gear longer for a corner, you have more revs to work with.

How much difference is there between the factory intake box and an aftermarket with these blocks?
From what I have read, the only place where the factory box is a real restriction is at high rpms where the engine needs lots of air, which is why modifying the snorkel shows noticeable improvements only at high rpm.
Has anyone installed these with the factory snorkel and then modified it to see if that upper end drop off gets reduced?
