Exhaust Parts Ranking/Perrin Header?
Hey folks,
So I've been a frequenter of these forums for a while now, and I've tried my darndest to get every scrap of information available. That being said, I decided to bite the bullet and post a thread with a few questions I still haven't been able to find the answer to. 1) Yesterday I installed the Perrin 3.0" cat-back exhaust system, and I absolutely love it. I am trying to decide what modification to make next as far as the exhaust is concerned. With the remaining stock pieces (header/overpipe/midpipe), what would you rank as the best "bang for your buck" upgrade? If you could also list some things I can expect with each upgrade, that would be very helpful. Bear in mind here that I am a daily driver, I don't plan on doing much track driving, and I want to keep my car legal to drive in PA (meaning I don't want to have to switch out any parts when I go in for inspection). 2) As I said, I went with Perrin Performance for my cat-back exhaust. I'm nervous as far as mixing and matching goes. Would I find that the exhaust pipes sync better if I stick with one company? This question may seem obvious, but it more-so leads into my next and last question. 3) Does Perrin plan on making a catted UEL header? I heard FT-86 SpeedFactory makes one, but again with the syncing of pipes, I want to make sure it all flows smoothly. As I said in question 1, I'm going to be looking for a catted header so I don't have to worry about emission problems. Thanks is advance for all your help guys. I admit to ignorance on this subject, so please feel free to educate any misconceptions I may have! |

As long as your pipes are the same diameter they should bolt up fine regardless of brand

Perrin is not making any parts that replace the oem cats. Thus header and fp from them are out. As long as you buy stuff that mounts in the factory location you should be fine. But you need a tune to unlock most of the headers potential

Header will be you best bang for the buck option. How well the exhaust components line up is much less influenced by having the same manufacturer as it is picking manufacturers that take the time to properly engineer a product. You shouldn't have any problems mixing-and-matching parts from Nameless, Perrin, Invidia, Berk, etc... It's when you start buying the eBay brand crap that the fitment issues arise.
If you want to stay fully legal in PA, the FT-86 Speedfactory header is probably your best option. If you elected to go with a catless header, you could tune it to get rid of the CEL and still likely pass emissions, provided they don't actually look under the car. |

And as for a tune, I'm planning on the unichip. Yeah, ecutek is probably better, but again back to the "passing inspection" concern. I'm one of the paranoid types, so even a reflash scares me since it leaves the footprint. |

If I were you id consider doing some research in terms of the Open Flash Tablet tuning solution. There are many people who use this tuner, there are an immense amount of features on it and it also will be almost untraceable by the dealer ( it's quite a long process for them to check for reflashes)
