Paint protection film and 10 series logo

Hi all,

Wondering about the 10 series logos. I presume they are wired up but I don't know if it's easily removable and re-attachable.

I'm thinking about getting some xpel ultimate paint protection film put on the car - should I warn them about the emblems? Can they re attach the wiring with little trouble? Haven't seen any pics of the wiring harness.

Does anyone have experience with wrapping a 10 series? I've searched, haven't been able to find anything.

Jeff

If you're talking about the center badge, I'm pretty sure there's either already a cut-out if it's a pre-cut kit or they cut around the badge when applying the film. The badge itself does not get covered. At least that was the case for me.

The guy I talked to confirmed that they remove the badges. I tried to tell him about the glowing center badge but he started talking about Corvettes...

I'd bet they remove the badges to make sure the fit around the badge is seamless. I don't have a big problem with it, just want to make sure there are no complications...

Remove the badges? No. When I had my paint protection installed, the badges were not removed since their system has a precut for the FRS/BRZ already. Badges are not covered.

So, here's a somewhat useful answer for those searching and stumbling upon this thread.

Research I've done:

  • I have not taken any of the badges off
  • I am just going off of the diagrams provided with the 10 series for the light up badges (see attachment here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1183044&postcount=11)
  • I looked behind the trunk badge to see how that was wired up. Can't be assed to take things apart to look inside the front bumper.

What I think is the situation with the wiring:

  • The wiring connector, which allows you to connect/disconnect the badge to the rest of the wiring throughout the car, is actually a few inches down the wiring, away from the badge (see #9 in the diagram above).
  • The wiring immediately coming out of the badge is siliconed in place? Doesn't seem easy to remove. So you can't simply pry the badge off and disconnect it, you'll have to cut out the silicone and disconnect the connector further down the wires.

In summary - if you have a PPF installer that wants/needs to take the badges off, you may need to have a discussion with them about this. I'll reply with updates if I go forward with this particular installer. I'm hoping they have a pre-cut solution.

Further update for those searching and finding this.

The sales guy was mistaken when he told me they would take the FR-S badges off to wrap it. The XPEL cut includes a cutout for the badge. Further, the badge is recessed into the bumper such that it would be more of a pain than it's worth.

Long story short, don't remove the 10 series badge because it's a pain for little gain.
