2013 Scion FR-S - 2014 Update

Been a long time since I've posted here

Update on my 2013 Scion FR-S!

2013 Summer was filled with problem with my suspension setup (aka way to low) . Since I track the car, I've damaged 2 axle, destroyed my front inner fenders and tons of other problems.

I've leave the stance for a proper height to fit my need. I've change the look of the car with my new Enkei NT-03+M wheels and a the trunk spoiler from TRD (Not the eBay cheap one, the real TRD).

Performance wise, I've put back the OEM tune. I was tuned with Perrin, after logs and logs, my car was still running like crap when I was flooring it at low RPM (Below 2000rpm, WOT) So now I'm running the OEM last tune, thanks to EcuTek last update.

I've put back to the OEM air box, with a TRD drop-in and a Genome Tuning plug kit. My old intake system was from Takada and my butt dyno didn't see any diff.

Oh and for the track, I've got a nice Sparco Evo seat for the driver side. Was damn tired breaking my back at every corner.

So for 2014 I've cleaned out my car with a more realistic and functional setup!

Wow this is a beautiful car, very clean and very well done. It almost looks stock from the outside, but I bet it handles amazingly on the track.

Poor performance under 2000rpm

Just saw your post and this may or may not be relevant for you but, if it helps I thought I might chime in. I'm guessing your performance issues had nothing to do with your tune and more to do with the snorkel on your air box. I had the K&N drop in filter and stage one tune from oft. I upgraded to the stage two tune and started running E85. Now that's a noticeable difference. Anyway, while looking through this forum for preventative maintenance for E85 use I came across the idea to modify the stock snorkel to get a couple more ponies out of it. I figured why not. I did the mod giving the snorkel about twice as much surface are to collect air. I drove the car shortly after, mine is AT btw. AT out of neccessity more than choice. Anyway, from a stop put the throttle to the floor and it fell dead on its face. It would ever so slowly climb to 2k before it would get up and go. I thought maybe the ecu needed to learn for the mod. Drove a couple of days that way and it never cleared up. Reflashed the tune, same problem. Anyway, did a little research and then did a little experimenting by covering the modded snorkel more and more. Low end performance got better and better. From low rpms you need velocity more than volume. The system needs to scavenge for air to begin the combustion sequence properly. Anyway, I continued covering the snorkel, doing runs and logging data. What I ended up with for best performance off the line was a surface area that is actually .5" smaller than the original snorkel inlet. Not the best for peak hp but, if you want to get moving quick and don't have FI, my advice, leave the stock snorkel. Not a mechanic and this is my first 4cyl vehicle let alone a boxer, just my opinion.
