FR-S & and Tree Dilemma

Hey Guys

So I recently moved to a new apartment which has a fairly large driveway which also has a large tree hovering above it. I share the driveway with the landlord who has the only spot not directly below the tree. I've attempted to park as close to the street as possible to avoid the tree but no matter where I park the car is under the tree.

I purchased a monthly touchless wash plan from the car wash down the street (thank god they are 2 mins away). Every morning the car is covered in worm droppings, tree debris, pollen, and sap. I have not had a chance to polish, wax etc yet this year but will be done in a couple of weeks. The touch less wash while not ideal does a pretty good job of clearing off the sap, poop, etc.

I've been debating on getting a car cover to protect the car while parked under the tree.

Wondering from you guys if I should just wax the car with a few layers of sealant (klasse high gloss) and use the touchless wash daily or if I should seal and purchase a car cover. I'm not sure how the winter and fall will be, I'm assuming acorns and twigs/branches.

Thanks!

If you care about protecting the paint, at least wax, for sure… It will help things come off a lot easier. I would ease up on the car washes… I've been told the recycled water can damage the paint in the long run.

The cover idea sounds great. How about one of those canopy deals? But keep it waxed, even a spray wax application after washes will work.

I like the carport idea, just not sure it's going to fly with the landlord lol.

Then each night, sneak out there and safely remove one branch from the tree until no more branches are over your baby.

I'd see if the landlord is up for the carport idea that you both can use... Perhaps work out a cost sharing plan that benefits both of you. Of course when you're gone, the landlord can tote the carport to the next car buff.

I use a car cover as I am out of the garage right now. The car cover protects my car from sun, hail, and snow/ice. It's your best bet if the carport does not work out. I would not take it touchless washes. Wash by hand. See forums for appropriate wash techniques.

Yea I'm going to test the touch less wash once I have the sealant on as I'm curious to see how it will hold up. I only use the most basic package which is just the wash and dry. Lesser of two evils poops on paint vs reused water.

Oh, thank God. I thought this was going to be much worse than it was.
I had Lynyrd Skynyrd running through my head.
"Whiskey bottle, brand new car, oak tree you're in my way."
I would invest in a good locking car cover just to make sure it doesn't disappear overnight.
