FT-86 by 2013

Last paragraph.

""Between ensuring that upcoming models are trouble free, meeting new fuel and emissions requirement and delivering the FT-86 by 2013, a new Supra is likely to remain just a dream for the foreseeable future.""

During a discussion with U.S. journalists on Friday in Japan, Toyoda was asked about the possibility of building a car like a Supra that would appeal to enthusiasts. As such a huge company, Toyoda said, "even if one president says that we want to have a Supra again, the whole company is not going to be responding to that request."

Toyoda explained that he did much of his development as a driver behind the wheel of a Supra and has fond memories of flinging that model around the Nürburgring. Speaking through an interpreter, Toyoda told the group that "would like to create a car that is better than the Supra, and just for your information, I am not against this idea."

However, this discussion came against the backdrop of a week where Toyota officials acknowledged that the company had grown too quickly in the past decade and would need slow down and re-prioritize. Between ensuring that upcoming models are trouble free, meeting new fuel and emissions requirement and delivering the FT-86 by 2013, a new Supra is likely to remain just a dream for the foreseeable future.

FYI, last paragraph was written/quoted by writer & not Mr. Toyoda.

Again, simple rumor

yup. Seriously, the FT86 needs to be on sale no later than the end of next year. Do it Toyota or GTFO.

Just a side note, the article says BY 2013. This is just as accurate as saying BY 2020... If it were to hit the dealers next month, both years would be correct as it is releasing before the specified year. Just another thing to get a few hits on a website and get people like us worked up.

I dunno if anyone figure this out..but 2013 could also imply the new model year season.

Selling the FT86 at the 3rd quarter of 2012 as a 2013 model.

No kidding.

If it's too much longer, I'm jumping ship.

It's nice but I'm not going to be sitting on my hands wanting it for an extra year. It's not THAT special.

you guys are funny as hell...I'm sure Toyota is going to rush this car into production just for your graduation...lol!

I'd rather it take a little longer and be right from the get go then rush it out and have it be recalled or soft because they didn't take enough time working out the details.

It'll come out when it's ready....

Nobody is asking for Toyota to rush this car out prematurely.

2 years away. What would be rushed? It's already taking "a little longer"

They already have a good concept, chosen platform, and chosen what engine will be in(engine type at least)

Two years from now is more than enough time to finalize and get this car in production. Not a rush date.

And if they don't, some people aren't going to want to wait any longer.
