Any you guys running a single muffler exhaust?
Any you guys running a single muffler exhaust?
I'm looking at the J2 Solution - but running one muffler or just having a stainless magnaflow unit custom. (Either solution less than $400.) Goals are: 1. Less Weight 2. Mellower Sound 3. Low Cost |

Just my opinion, but single exit exhaust tips are ricey.
From what I've seen, less weight and mellower sound are mutually exclusive. To get a nice sound without drone and rasp, you'll need more material for baffles inside the muffler(s), or for a resonator. More material = more weight |

I run Tomei 60S - mainly for wt saving for track days, not a big fan of single exit if the car is not designed for it, but for track purpose its a diff story.
Sound will not be mellower, its hella loud but also Tomei is full Titanium....

I'm running a tomei 80 and it has a very low weight. On the other hand, it is a bit loud and kind of on the pricier side for exhausts.

Well to combat the increased noise, I plan on running a longer muffler from a reputable company like Magnaflow or Borla. I'll also fabricate a blank for the extra exhaust cutout in the rear panel so it doesn't look as... ODD.
BUT - again the goal is less weight, some sound, low price. FWIW - I am noticing though that the boxer motor doesn't produce the same exhaust note/force like 4 or 6 cylinder motors. It's definitely a louder motor. |

I have the Tomei 80r exhaust on my turbo BRZ. It sounds awesome, ZERO rasp, just deep and sweet. It is loud, but no drone.
I have the Full Blown turbo, Nameless 3'' over/frontpipe, and Tomei 80r, catless. I'm a purist, dual tips on a single exhaust, on a 4 banger? I'll put a cover over the opening on the other side someday. |

I wish a company would design a single exit bumper skin with a matching diffuser...
I want to run a single exit muffler cause well, no reason for a dual with this engine, but the stock muffler does act as a diffuser for underbody airflow so something has to be done about that. Might as well integrate that into a bumper skin. Oh and I have a nameless muffler delete I've tried, its fun for kicks and shaves a TON of weight off the car and gives damn good power on the high end too. Too loud of course. |

I'm running a muffler delete with 5" muffler added on by Nameless with the exhaust hole cover from FT86 Speed Factory. It's not mellow but the 5" muffler keeps it daily drive-able. Costs about $250, $300 or so new I think.
IMHO, a single exhaust with the hole cover looks better than dual exhaust. I guess I like a bit of asymmetry, just like how I think the tow hook license plate looks better than having it in the middle. Everybody has different tastes though of course.. I dig dual exhausts too. A custom lightweight exhaust for just the axle back portion, using the stock mid pipe, would be a nice cheap way to shed some weight while retaining lower sound levels. You should hit up Burlingame Mufflers.. heard good things about their custom work. |

Thanks for your 2-cents.
I've got Scott's Minute Muffler over here in Dublin. They guy is a genius with metal and crazy cheap. The next step I think is finding a muffler that flows well enough and can keep the sound quiet enough for around town. (I'm in my 40s so a fan of loud at WOT but quiet when not.) Quote:

Hi guys, I hava a BLITZ turbo installed on my BRZ. I am currently using Greddy EVO3 3" dual exhaust on my car. Thinking of switching to Tomei 80r single exhaust. Will it give me more hp or torque gain? Any input on pros an cons? Thanks

Tomei 80R is loud as F. My full catless system is slightly louder then a stock car with a type 80R, pair that with headers and testpipe and your ears will bleed lol. |
