From BMW to Scion

I posted in the welcome thread yesterday but I figured I'd share my story. I bought my 2013 FR-s (whiteout) day before yesterday, after my '04 BMW 325i started driving rough. Turns out the engine was shot, $7000 to fix/replace (my own damn fault, didn't maintain, never again). So, new car time.

I figure, hell, if I'm going to drop a chunk of change, might as well get what I want, right? Scion FR-S here I come; I've been lusting after this car the first moment I saw one. Found a used one for sale and went for a test drive (I never buy new, and this is is the newest; and most expensive; car I've ever purchased)

I don't know if I just have good luck or the Gods were smiling down upon me that day, but not only did the dealer screw up and have the FR-S listed for the price of a TC (mislabled in their system), but their appraisal guy didn't find what was wrong with the Beemer and ended up giving me $5000 trade in for it (I still can't believe it).

Most stressful day of my life but I could not have asked for a better outcome.

But now I have this little sports car, I've never had a car with power like this before (my BMW was ok, but it was falling apart). I've been reading the threads here and it makes me realize I'm such a car noob, and bit intimidated, but damnit I love this car and am willing to learn.

If you guys have any ideas for tasteful and inexpensive mods, or just general advice on this car, I'd love to hear it. I plan on getting a drop in filter first, but after that, sky's the limit I suppose.

TL;DR - my BMW kicked the can, I got my dream car.

How mislabeled was the car? What was it listed for?

Not extremely. It was a 2013 FR-S and they had it mislabled as a 2014 TC; $2000 difference in price is what they told me.

On one hand, you knowingly did not disclose that the car was in a bad state, but on the other hand, the dealer didn't find it in their inspection. I'm conflicted!!

Welcome though. Maintain your car this time.

While a good story for you, you may want to delete this. Don't know about being able to go back on the deal, but maybe the dealer could have some recourse for both the price of the car and the trade in?

Either way, welcome and just sift through the pages of info here. You will eventually find all the answers you need if you look. I haven't had to make a new thread for any of the questions that I had and have enjoyed reading what most of the people on this board have to say.

Doubt it, if anything their appraiser would get in trouble, not my fault he's not good at his job, and either way they're still getting their pound of flesh out of me right? I signed the papers, they signed the papers.

On the flipside, there is also the chance that there wasn't anything majorly wrong with the BMW anyway, and that the mechanic I went to didn't know what they were talking about. In that case, I feel like I still made off well, since $5000 ain't bad for a '04 BMW with 140K miles on it.

And trust me, never going to do that shit with the oil ever again. Stupid.

Really... I'm lucky if I could sell my 02 530i for 3 grand and it only has 86K miles!

Needs a full repaint and some trim pieces though... but it drives ok

My BMW also need a repaint (top was faded); sun roof and two windows didn't work; clock didn't work; had several leaks; plastic door panel piece was broken on one of the rear passenger doors; I really did make off like a thief in that deal. Perhaps nearly putting on the water works and walking away at the dealer helped me out too.

You really did rape the dealership... damn... lucky bastard...

All the windows on my car work, no leaks, engine is strong, though burning some oil, and a lot of gas.
