Tire rotation

I have one floor jack and two jack stands. Should I get two more jack stands to do tire rotation? Can I do tire rotation with what I have? Many thanks.

Two more jack stands would make it much much easier, as you could have all four wheels in the air at the same time. Rotating all four tires with only two tires in the air at any given time could get real squirrelly.

Are you planning front to rear or diagonal rotation? I put a 2 foot section of 2x4 on my floor jack, position it in the middle of the car on the seam (same seam where the jack points are) and lift the entire side. Rotate front to rear, lower car. Obviously that doesn't cover diagonals.

Using what you have, you can also just lift one end, put it on jack stands, then jack up the other end. Rotate tires as needed. You aren't working under the car, so I don't consider it to be a safety problem supporting one end of the car with a jack.

I think 4 jack stands are essential, but not required for tire rotations. Like celica mentioned: jack up one end, place stands, jack other end, rotate. The only time this becomes dangerous is if the jack begins to fail, you could be looking at some minor damage.

But if you want to do anything under the car, it's VERY convenient to have the entire car off the ground on 4 stands.

I personally don't like to use the seams for jacking unless it's the only option. I'd rather lift from the front cross member or diff. If I had jack buddies that support around the seam then I'd feel better about it.
