Quick Autox Video | 2nd in Class
Was out finally getting to do autox testing on Ohlins dampers learning how car changed vs. stock suspension.
The course was designed by Miata drivers for Miata drivers, very tight, complex. Most difficult part was getting hands to switch from standard, to shuffle to changing positions fast enough to get through transitions. After doing more track and karting recently it took me a bit to get back to this. I hate shuffle steering and changing hand positions. Quick Settings Note:

Nice job. That us a crazy tight course.. All of the tight corners make for a lot of speed changes. I hate it when a course doesn't flow. A good course design should not favor one vehicle type but challenge all vehicles. The Miata guys probably hate seeing an FR-S messing up the final results list.

Hey, met you at the autocross this past weekend! I was the guy in the silver BRZ.
Amazing what good driving, supercharging, and a good tire/suspension setup can do! My best was a 55.326, the only thing not stock was the exhaust (switched to a Nameless muffled track pipe to save about 20 pounds). It was my first autocross with the car, so I'm still learning a lot about it. It feels a whole lot different than my 06 Miata and especially different from the 91 MR2 I used to drive. I couldn't get the hairpin turn leading to the gated slaloms, it was a tough turn for me...the car understeered like crazy. The first Chicago Box was quite interesting too, and I couldn't figure out the best time to brake for it was. The second Chicago Box was a bit more intuitive for me for some reason. Gonna stay fairly close to stock during this season, so it'll be nice to compare time with you. I'll do simple things like get an alignment (the camber bolts have been sitting on my desk) and maybe a drop in filter replacement. A set of sticky tires if I feel like spending some cash. Hope to see you around, you'll have to take me around in your FRS next time! |

I used to be horrible in slalom, but it clicked for me one year and have never had an issue since. FRS/BRZ very quick and easy to keep neutral, stock suspension included.

I tend to blow my first 3-4 runs making all my mistakes to see what I can get away with and figuring out pavement grip for launching etc. Then focus on smoothing out afternoon runs. The hairpins are a pain in the ass you just cant try and be fast in those zones. Go in smooth, go out smooth. The BRZ understeers, and to make matters worse in a stock class you have no factory camber adjustment on the car. You could swap in the camber/crash bolts max out front camber with them and that should get you away from under steer. I am sure you will figure out what works the more you drive. I will be there this weekend in the S2000 and back following week in FRS again. I will try and ride with you one session and see how things are going.
