Track day attire

I know alot of serious track day guys have race suits and gloves and shoes but I was curious as to what folks who just do occasional track days wear? I usually just wear jeans and a long sleeve t shirt with some gloves if its really hot or cold and I have a snug pair of tennis shoes with tuck away laces for AutoX or track.

In the winter, long sleeve shirt and jeans. In the summer, gym shorts and a t-shirt. It's too hot in Florida to wear anything else in the summer unless I'm in the race car with the cool suit and helmet blower.

Some tracks/clubs require you to wear long sleeve cotton shirt and pants.

Nothing because it's added weight. jk.

Seriously though, just dress accordingly. Comfort is key, but check with your local HPDE host as they may have different rules.

Most of the clubs here require long cotton pants and shirts minimum, so that's what I wear. Plus Sparco race shoes and Pyrotect gloves. The gloves are for grip more than protection for me, as I hate trying to drive with sweaty hands.

My last track day involved a fire in my brz

It's not a big deal, just header wrap oil leak equals fire and flag guys waving you down, it was not even close really to a problem, but it could have become one, and I think I'm gonna upgrade to proper track clothes full fire proof ness, I running a tank ful of e50 plus methanol, just want to ever not be prepared, stuff happens fast

The last time I checked fire was just as hot in July as it is in April Take my word for it, the heat even with all my saftey gear was frighteningly hot in the blink of an eye!

You don't need safety gear but wear jeans, cotton socks, cotton long sleeve, and gloves. Bring cool clothes to change into after your track session.

Indeed!

For drivers considering a suit, this page on SFI suit specs is worth a read: http://www.sfifoundation.com/article-1/.

I also find my safety gear doesn't really bother me, heat wise. I'm not sure why really as we've measured cockpit temps over 120F but it's probably the layers pulling the sweat off my skin as I wear fire resistant shirt under my suit, and a helmet balaclava.

It really bothers some people so it could just be your physical conditioning or how much you've been exposed to extreme heat. Last year I still had AC so I ran it on grid before the race began. LOL!
