The "First 86 Program" Should be revised!!!

Here we go! A smart but DUMB guy that should be banned from this forum website or stoned, is already trying to make profit on one of the cars that should be going to one of us, that have been waiting patiently for this vehicle! He will regret letting go a peice of history down the road. People can say its his, he can do what he wants, blah blah blah.

I feel that each of "First 86 FR-S" should be going to the people who were chosen. If one of the "First 86 FR-S" can't take delivery on the vehicle whether financial reasons or didn't like it... It then should be turned over back to Toyota & go down the order of the list of who applied into that program.*

Example: Dadhawk didn't want to take his "First 86", cuz he changd his mind. Now there's an FR-S sitting around to be bought. Right? Rather than any regular joe shmoe coming to buy it, Toyota is notified & the vehicle is offered to the person who was next in line who didn't make the cut. Mr. #87, #88, #89, #90 & etc...

That should be the process that should have been followed. For the real enthusiasts who will cherish & pass this vehicle on to the generations. For the person who watched this forum site everyday smiling at each news feed. That is what I believe is right!*

That is actually what was stated would happen, but obviously it didn't.

I wonder what the attrition rate of the first #86 will be?

Most of the serious buyers who signed up for the first86 and didn't win have already ordered. It sounds like more trouble then it's worth to go back and draw new names for the rejected cars.

I guess in a way you are correct... Just think it should have been done at least.

I think that is what was originally intended and it DID work for me. I was originally on the wait list but got moved up to the confimed list.

It does cause problems when one of the First86 backs out of the car late in the game. I can understand there would be a logistics problem with Scion then drawing another name from the pool of 3,000 and the next "winner" is 2000 miles away and the car has to shipped across country.

So instead of a Joe Shmoe who happens to be at the dealer at the right time getting it, a Joe Shmoe who happens to have signed up for First 86 gets it? I don't see the difference.

Sure there's a difference. If you entered the First 86 "contest", 1 of 3 things could happen - 1 - You "win" and are one of the First 86. 2 - You are wait listed, and told so via email, or 3 - You are neither of those things. No soup for you.

What's the point of Thing 2 then?

Some people were waitlisted at first and then told they were winners when the original winners had backed out. But now the free trip has already happened so there isn't much point to drawing new winners, just to tell them that they missed out on the good part of being chosen but they can go pick up a car that is probably halfway across the country that they could get anyways if they just wait 2 weeks. I think they should've had people set up their financing before they got the free trip and everything, that would've eliminated these people who are now backing out.

I agree that at this point, the "fun part" is over, but that wasn't the whole of the First 86 program. It was called First 86 for a reason. I'm not saying that the alternative to selling to Joe Shmoe would be finding someone on the wait list halfway across the country. I simply propose that they should have held the car for a week and a half - and they should have been instructed to do so by Scion.

For what it's worth, the dealership told me that if they didn't sell the car by that Monday it would hurt their chances of getting future allotments of the FR-S. It seemed like they felt they were going to get in trouble if they didn't report it sold.

Appreciate that. Again, I have nothing against you - and I was one of the first to congratulate you when you got the car.

This despite my First 86 car, sitting on the dealer lot for the past 2 weeks, which I don't get until tomorrow (which I have never complained about). I do believe it should have been handled a bit differently. If I have to wait 2 weeks for my first 86 car, for marketing reasons set forth by Scion, then they also should have had a better plan for a situation such as this.
