FRS-BRZ-Genisis- possible supra
I ordered my FRS when they where first avalible. I love the car and paid the extra cash to have white paint. Absolutly love the car, however I now torn between the FRS/BRZ limited/ and the R-Spec Genisis that comes with the brembo brake package among aother things.
I know this isnt probably the best way to start a thread here but I have been non stop doing my research about the up and coming 2014-15-16 BRZ/FRS and every thing I have read says no turbo which I was praying for eithe a TRD turbo or a STI turbo BRZ and everything I have read and talking to sales people at the dealer ships they say its not going to happen which is such a shame because the car handles so well and is a blast to drive, especially with my new EVO exhaust and other bolt ons. The sales people and higher ups always say that price is the issue etc. At anyrate I test drove a Genisis turbo R spec with the brembo brake packae and the engine I believe is a 2.0 that puts out 274 horsepower. I am unsure what boost they run from factory and or what upgradescan be done to get some more torque and hp, or even what mods are avalible for that matter as for last two years I ve been hard core twins all they way The price was just over 28 k... $28, 045 to be exact - however I didnt include have the interior to be heated and complete leather not the leather material and cloth. I do not like the blue lighting inside the cockpit and love twins inteiror much better. Test driving the car it was heavier I guess the word would be kind of clunky however the materials they used inside the cockpit are much higher quality then what the twins currently have. Again I dont know what the curb weight is, but you can for sure tell the car weighs more and does not handle as well, which with some suspension mods I am sure would fix that problem. But when that boost kicked in it was smooth and felt great. My brother in law loves my car and asked if he could take over the lease over because he knew I was starting to have thoughts about holding out for the 15-16 Twin praying Toyota will have a TRD versiona and Subie a STI version. I also read that the price would be in the upper 30's for if they where to make Subie STI, a tad less then a loaded WRX STI. My question to you guys is just opionions I guess... How can the Hyundia Gen come stock with a 2.0 , turbo , suspension and a brembo brake package and still have a sticker lessthan 30k. I love the AVO kit but your looking at 6-7 k for the stage 2 kit along with installation and no warranty if somethign goes wrong with it especially with 12.5 compression. I have access to E-85 the gas station 5 minutes from my house has it on tap but you add the AVO kit plus have a shop install it along with other mods, wheels, a brembo kit, lowering springs, exhaust , the list goes on you could easily be well over 40 k with a brand new car and if something goes wrong with the tune and you have detonation and blow the motor we are SOL. You just blew the motor in your brand new twin and nothing we can do about it.I am torn because I love the twins and I will probably going with a BRZ limited or STI IF it has a factory turbo and wouldnt think twice about buying one if my brand new car was under warranty, I love the 86 but I just cant keep track, release series, monogram, then just the bare bones. It just doesnt make sense that Toyota would brand the Brand the 86 an FRS when in every other country its a 86 or GT 86 ..... which leads me to believe that maybe the reason for that was because they are going to be coming out with a new turbo charged supra or whatever they would call it, either way I think they would have sold a lot more units if it was branded it as a 86 with all the different options and trim levels it just doesnt make sense. I went to Scions websie to build a 2014 FRS and there still really no factory options for the car ![]() Anyways I guess my question is how Can Hyundia put out there sports coupe with a turbo and suspension kit brembo brake kit and all for under 30k with an awesome warranty but Toyota and Subie say they can't make one that is cost effective??? Is Hyundia junk ? unreliable? I am just scratching my head trying to figure out how there couple has the mods we want for our cars for under 30k from the factory. Anyone here own or used to own the R-spec Turbo 274 hp Genesis have any input on the car. I just mailed in the paperwork tonight to have the FRS transffered over to him so I will be for he next few months on what to do, BRZ, FRS/86/ R-spec, the possible new turbo supra and also another rumor I read was that Nissan wants to compete with the twins so they will be lowering the displacment and possibly adding a turbo charger in the same price range as the twins![]() Sorry for the long winded posts and I am sure I wont get many responses, but if anyone has any in detail information about the R-spec as far as the internals if they are forged, the comperssion ratio, and any other issues the car may or may not have it just seems you lower it, but a nice set of wheels on it, adjust the boost or upgrade the turbo, or exhauset or other bolt ons its a bargain and looks better each time I see it, especially when its lowered and has a nice set of wheels on it. So I will be twin less within the next couple weeks so I ll be going crazy until I get either another twin or the Gen R-Spec Coupe if its legit and not a piece of garbage.......but either way no matter what I am sure I ll end up with a twin no matter what LOL. Anyways sorry for the pointless long winded post, hopefully a few people out there can point me in the right direction or tell me that I am an idiot for going from a twin to a R-spec I am smh right now If anyone has any inside info about the upcoming tiwns on whether or not we are going to have a turbo please let me know so I dont drive myself crazy over this car situation. thanks guys Dan

I feel like you answered your own question in that post. The Genesis is heavier, it's clunky, and handling doesn't match the twins. It's been said many times they won't turbo the twins from the factory because they feel it ruins the purity of the car.
Someone hit my frs and I was without it for 3-4 weeks and driving a hyundai. While it was nice.....I was beyond happy to be back in my car. It feels so much more connected to the road and more of an extension of driving capabilities than just a machine. All in all, get what makes you happy. But I doubt a turbo will come anytime soon if at all. |

Don't want to downplay the car you're interested in, but sure the Genesis is fun on the street. Take it to the track and you will be constantly looking at your clock hoping the session is over. I took the R-spec out for a track session at Laguna while my friend took my FRS out. After the session he told me he wanted to stay in my FRS because it was just a lot more fun and predictable. The car is a tank, 274hp is around 220whp and feels more like 130 at high temps. It overheats, terrible turn-in, but I do have to say the brakes are probably the best part of the car. If you plan to stay away from auto-x and track sessions then nothing above really matters.
On the street it has great passing ability, and is a decent looking car. If you're waiting on a factory turbo for the twinsies (and don't plan on going the after-market route), it's just time to move on. |

Holy fucking thoughts-into-text-batman. If you like the twin, keep the twin. If you like the Genesis, get the Genesis. Toyota already stated that they will not have a turbo version. The twins are a modders car. They made them fun in stock form but they respond extremely well to modifications which is the blood of the car. If you wait for next years model, you're going to keep waiting forever.

That was a long post and this isn't really the right forum for it.
Hyundai/Kia can't seem to put the whole package together in a car, I wish they would. There are some parts of the Genesis Coupe which are great like the engine, but then other parts are really not very good, like the transmission/shifter. It's also much larger, heavier, and overall is just a way different car to drive. |

LOL sorry for the long winded post it was one of the nights.....My white out is already gone, Its probably matter of another week before my brother in law takes it over. With that being said, I am sure I will be getting one of the twins /subie or Toyota but one of the I will be either going with limited BRZ or Monogram FRS.

500-600 pounds heavier than the twins, I believe.
My brother in law has the 6MT Genesis. It's 348 HP and quite fast (in a straight line) compared to my BRZ. It's a nice car and I'm sure I'd be happy to own one. That said... I didn't like the handling nearly as much, though. Even with his very large (compared to the BRZ) tires, the power felt like too much for the chassis/suspension. IMO, it's easier to upgrade power than fix a chassis that's not that good... In reference to "blah" handling from Hyundai/Kia, one of the car magazines said something like "designing/fixing handling/suspension is like doing black magic."

I had the genesis back when it first came out with the 2.0T in 09. back then it had 210 hp and 220 tq. personally i found the car too big. while autocrossing i found it very difficult to be competitive, although i was classed way above what it would be now haha. In the end you have to look at what you want. are you looking for something fast in a straight line or are you looking for something to really dig into a corner? I'm personally into the racing so the FRS is hands down the car for me. the vast community and the out of the box capabilities of the car in autocrossing is all i need!
