Removing 12v outlet cover

Does anyone know an easy way to remove the black pop-on cover to the 12v outlet in the center console? I'm going to put a USB plug in there and I don't wan that black cap hanging down anymore, and it looks like if it were removed the outlet could be more flush with the plastic surrounding.

Are you talking about just the cover, or the entire piece? If just the cover, I'm not too sure. If the entire piece, it comes out but you'll need to remove the center console to get leverage to push it from behind to "break loose" the tabs as it's in there really snug.

When you say entire piece I'm not sure what you're referring to, I mean the black plastic thing that is attached all the way around the metal lip of the 12v outlet, on the bottom of that plastic piece is a hinge where the lid can fold closed or down. I want that whole thing off, I really need to remove the entire center console for just that?

I'm referring to the removal of the entire outlet. I'm not sure if that hinged piece comes off or if it's integrated. @Zero90 - Can you check yours that you have and see?

We just removed his entire outlet yesterday and had to remove the center console to get leverage to push the clips out as it's held in there really tight.

The console is only a 5 minute job to remove though, super easy.

Damn, that's worse than I thought, it looks like the black piece is what's actually holding the outlet in place, with those black clips I doubt I could remove it and have the metal outlet still stay in place. Damn, maybe I can slide the metal pin out of the hinge to at least get rid of the annoying lid =/
