I just used a UNI filter cleaner. And re-oiled it with with their kit. Works great. I think it's the same stuff Perrin uses.

Here in Aus I was unable to get a unifilter cleaner kit. After some searching I tracked down their oil and used mineral turps to clean the filter as per the unifilter website. i just have the panel filter but it was super dirty.

Any shop that deals with dirtbikes/atv will have the stuff you need.
They are normally equipped with foam filters.

For sure the best stuff is Unifilter cleaner and oil. They are sold together, so you'll have both the cleaner and oil. Don't use anything for cotton filters, as it'll damage the filter over time.
