SpeedSport Single Carbon-Carbon Clutch

I'm considering this clutch for my car and trying get some real-use feedback. Anyone here purchase and install one from MVP Motorsports or elsewhere and have any feedback?

I know that these are basically made by RPS and that the son, RJ Smith has taken over for the Sports and Import side, and created SpeedSportClutches.

I read lots of praise for the RPS clutch brand, specifically for the Max Street and their Carbon-Carbon twin clutches (but with early design problems, back in 2004 where high HP/TQ Supras had problems).

This clutch is priced lower than the Exedy Twin disc and should be able to outperform and last longer than the the Twin, with the streetability of a twin, but with higher torque ratings 600 lbs.

ATS/Across carbon-carbon is very expensive, and their spin-off, Carbonetic who came out with the Carbon-blade single is no longer manufacturing it, plus it wasn't re-buildable (I guess just replacing the 4 blade was probably possible).

Any thoughts?

If I am not mistaken, this is the same clutch that went into the Crawford Performance BRZ 430 hp 500 tq beast.

just another piece of info, i contacted RJ for details.

The weight is really low. with the aluminum flywheel option, the whole clutch including the flywheel weighs in at 17.6lbs.

This is about 16lbs lighter than our OEM clutch (33.25lbs), and it's nearly 7.5lbs lighter than an ACT street clutch w/ Prolite (10.5lb) flywheel.

Pedal effort should be close to stock, and it should have very good drivability for those who want to daily drive it, might take some getting used to though due to how light it is.

It is rated for 450lb/ft of torque.

I've been looking to go this route myself although they are a bit more expensive, they are supposed to work pretty well and they are rebuildable.

Clutchmasters has a dual plate clutch around the same price, capable of handling a lot more torque, but probably not as easy to drive around as this one.

Isn't this somewhat meager in normal driving conditions?
Or is this meant for drag racing applications?

(Rebuildable is fine, but the clutch itself is not the expensive part when you need to replace it.)

It really depends on how much you beat on it. I ordered one not too long ago with the Aluminum flywheel but I probably won't get it installed for a little bit. I think 40K is acceptable for most non-OEM clutches with stronger pressure plates.

The trans on these cars is so lightweight/tiny it's relatively easy to do the clutch yourself with the car on jackstands.
