Post ZA1JA01C True reliability

Ok, so I've spent most of the day scouring threads both new and old regarding the plague of DI seals. I track my car, and I plan on a tuning solution due to getting P0351 a few times last year on track. Blah blah blah you all know the scenario.

My car is a May 2012 build date, I DO NOT want to get rid of it, but so help me god I'll sell it and buy an S2000.

I have a new coil in my toolbox and I will inspect my seals and replace them if necessary before the season starts, along with a tuning solution of my choosing. To be honest, I could give a shit about more power, I just want to track the car without thinking about this anymore.

Please post if you have either:
1: a 2012 build date with a tune to "fix" the issue with success.
2: a 2013+ build date with track time and no issues with misfire CEL's or DI seals.

I KNOW that there are countless threads on this. I'm trying to gauge SUCCESS of a fix, not talk about the the causes as they are well known and documented.

I had the fix since last summer supposedly who knows with fa20club. New tuner in November car felt great so I was pushing it. A few runs in the 120 range and I popped the code. Coil 1 was replaced right away. No codes since and no fire crackers.

@feldy did the new tuner specify the tune was based off the new rom?

Subbing!

Edit: I'm running A01C as well, build date 04/13. Will update if I run into any issues. Planning on tracking this summer so this is highly relevant to my interests...Stage 1 OFT right now, planning on Stage 2 in June.

I literally just got finished switching all my maps over to the A01C ROM. I have been running A00C since last May without issue with track time. With my A00C ROM I had implemented some fixes on there that essentially did the same thing as the A01C ROM however, I feel the A01C ROM does a better job at it (for lack of better words it does a better job without changing anything in that map or the others that can help withe the issue, I should say). It allows you to pull even more transient retard (30+) and it surpasses the previous ROMs 5000 RPM threshold for that map which as we know this is where the issue takes place up to redline, between shifts and so forth. Up until recently I didn't even realize how much more the A01C ROM transient tables let you manipulate it until I came across it by accident that I was still building my ROMs off the older A001 ROMs. Put it this way it was enough to make me spend hours upon hours copy and pasting my entire ROM over to the newer A01C. Still not sure how I had overlooked the fact I was still building off the old ROM The past couple days have been brain farts for me.

Anyway, my point is you can make the A00C ROM work but the A01C ROM is better at it. Either way I have had no issues and knowing the A01C transient table pretty well I can confidently say I feel it will be a non issue.

@AZFA20 what are your thoughts on people still seeing DI seal being compromised with the A01C? A few people still hold to it as being a definite failure down the road.

It's hard to say to be honest.

There are so many variables and there are folks who beat these up pretty good on the track without issue and then there are those who still do have problems. I think that since it seems to be so hit and miss that accounting for all the conditions that may be causing the failures will be difficult until either the seals themselves are updated or a precise circumstance that is causing some to have failure still be pinpointed. Like I said I have been out on the track with some folks who shift this thing recklessly on the track in my opinion and yet no failures. One thing I can say is that the A01C certainly made significant improvements on the transient maps to help prevent seals from being scorched. In all it may just still be a matter of time before we get a completely solid resolution. Me personally I am not worried about it. If I have a failure I just don't have too much beef with replacing em..... even as a preventive type thing (I certainly do not plan to though).

The a01c rom did a lot more than just change the map values. It increased the range of values you can put in there as well. With ecutek it's even configurable (the range).

A00c maxed at I think something like -35deg, where default for a01c is max -50something deg.

This is a tsb for an intermittent idle rpm drop. Meaning it doesn't necessarily have to happen for a tech. This will get you flashed to b01c which not only fixes the cause of the DI failure but has some other perks on top of the a01c calibration. I had this done and am quite pleased. This will not repair any damage you may have already suffered, but it should ensure it doesn't happen again once fixed. Went from 700c to b01c.

Not even. The max was 30

and yes you can go as far as 50 on the A01. It's substantially better.

Is there a TSB for Subaru yet? Can't seem to find one.
