California 91

Talking with my tuner, he says there's no regulation in CA and the gas can vary from station to station. He says stick with the Big 3 (Chevron, 76, Shell) and the stations with 3 separate pumps is better so there's no cross-mixing between the different octane fuels like with the 3-in-1 pumps.
He has a couple stations in my area he recommends, but they are across town.

I was told by someone that Shell gas was better. Near me I have Chevron, Shell, and 76.

I'm in the SF Bay area, I'd like to hear people's thoughts on CA gas, whether one brand is consistently better, which brands to stay away from, and any recommendations.

I've never seen any station that has separate pumps for the different gasoline octanes. I've seen ones where there's an E85 pump, diesel pump, and then gasoline 3-in-1 pumps, but not where they break down the pumps by gasoline octane, though.

In my area way up north I use a card lock. So far the brz has been fine and I havent replaced the filter on my diesel in forever which is not good unless the fuel is really clean. Or I go for a major brand store that is busy and replacing the fuel frequently. Stay away from shady gas stations

I usually pump my gas at Chevron or Shell on Hickey Blv daly city. I got no cricket if i pump gas at these two locations. Anywhere other gas i get cricket. The chevron one got three diff pumps for all 3 octains. Chevron station on John Daly at westlake is good too. Most important thing is the entrance is low so my car got no problem coming in.

I've read that Shell V-power 91 has NO ethanol, is that correct?

When I had my BMW I got a Vishnu tune and they told me that Shell gas dynoed 10 extra HP compared to other brands.

My car is turboed, and soon I'm going to go for more power, push things a little more, and I want to find the best gas I can get consistently.

Is it true that in CA gas can be different from station to station even with the same brands?

Let me know who your tuner is, I'd like to avoid that tuner.

And I'm totally being serious: I don't like it when someone just says these things as fact without proof.

Thats not only in CA, its everywhere. A gas station by a highway will always have higher prices compared to a somewhere street gas station, even the same brand.

All California gas sucks. Come to florida, where we pump the nectar of the gods (fresh-off-the-boat 93 octane go juice).
