Rental Car Question

Hey guys,

So as you saw.. my car got destroyed last night and now I am scoping out some rental cars.

Question: do you think the insurance company will reimburse me for a similar car (i.e. a mustang / camaro).. or do you think it makes sense to go conservative and grab a Corolla / Camry to ensure a higher probability of reimbursement?

Not trying to be tough here, just wanna figure out what the best approach is. I would feel bad swapping my FR-S for a corolla if I know I could get a mustang or some kinda sporty car

you are usually limited to $30/day. All the insurance companies have deals with the rental agencies and you get what you get.

Somebody ran a stop sign and hit my car.. Her insurance is covering the repairs on my FR-S. They were going to supply me with a rental.. But they were going to get me a Chevrolet Aveo or some crap. I said to them, "your job is to make me whole. I want a nice car to drive because I had a nice car."
It doesnt hurt to ask. Even if you have to fight somebody, ha. I hope your car gets repaired though. I'm glad your okay!

Edit: I'm assuming the drunk dude's insurance is going to cover everything since it's his fault? Drunk drivers are terrible. Fight that. Make them give you something nice!

Insurance will cover the cost of a car, and by that the mean the lowest price car that they negotiate...And if you want insurance on the car YOU will need to pay for that yourself.

I rented a 2014 corolla s when my fr-s was in the shop. I cried for the time i was in it. Felt like it only had 1 gear and that was first. I always see rentals as a car your getting for a short amount of time, might as well consider it as a trial car. Get something awesome like a camero or mustang. I always wanted to try one of those out.

Having worked in rental the policies differ from one and another. The cheaper the policy generally they're less inclined to pay for a decent vehicle. I remember times when we had BMW M3 owners who paid for cheap policies and because of that they were given a Pontiac G5 with no power windows/locks. If you got decent coverage, a car like the FRS is likely to fall under things like a Corolla to Sonatas/Optimas. Mustangs/Camaros aren't common at most locations and are more likely to be found at airport locations as city branches can end up in situations where a 2-door coupe is inadequate because many people drive practical sedans or CUV/minivans which often forces you to switch people out quickly if they took it but didn't want it, or worse it sits around waiting for a renter.
