Tapping/Ticking in 2nd gear

Noticed yesterday when cruising in 2nd gear at about 25-30 mph, I get a steady ticking/tapping feeling coming through the shifter. No sound, just a slight feeling. Any ideas?

MT, 2nd gear at a partial throttle, was cruising behind someone going slow about 25 mph. I'll put my hand on the shifter and can feel something vibrating through at a steady rate. Sometimes it's more pronounced that other times that I'm in second. Perhaps there's a deformity on my clutch disc or flywheel is my guess.

hmmm.....don't take this wrong, radroach, because I don't know your past driving experience, but it "may" be that you're not used to a MT that the shifter is in direct contact with the innards of the transmission (i.e. not connected by linkage).

Can you "see" or hear it vibrate if your hand isn't on the shifter .. ??

Seems like I'm getting used to certain
.

Doesn't happen all the time, but it happened the day before. I don't feel any other vibrations through the rest of the car or hear anything, it just a very small steady tapping or ticking vibration at a steady rate that I can feel sometimes when I put my hand on the shifter, 2nd gear under 30mph at partial throttle not accelerating.

It's a pretty well defined, perhaps oscilating vibration thats causing a ticking feel, different from normal road and trans vibrations, so it has to be from one of the rotating parts.

hmmm...... well, usually, if a flywheel is warped, the whole car will shake.

If the clutch disk is warped or otherwise damaged, it will be most noticeable at the point of engagement/disengagement.

It could be a weak/bad pressure plate ....

NOTE: Back in my miata days, when folks would complain about rough idle, I would suggest they take their hand off the shifter lever unless they are shifting .....
