How to disable BRZ Blue Interior Illumination kit?

Has anyone with the Blue Interior Illumination option (footwell lighting) been able to easily disconnect it? I know where the two lights are, and there are connections about 4" away from them which are covered in foam wrap. I tried pulling the plugs with needle nose pliers, but it wouldn't disconnect. The foam tape is making it impossible to see if there is a clip or button I need to press to release the connection, and I don't want to mangle them trying to find out (don't want to just cut wires, either). Alternatively, if there is a separate fuse I could pull, that would work too.

Thanks Trap63, I don't really understand electrical wiring diagrams very well. I think the TwinFoot lamp is a different setup than the option I have, though the wiring may be similar. I appreciate your help though.
