Potential new job across country. Looking at shipping options
First of all, I guarantee that this has been asked before, or at least something similar, so I apologize for that, but I have no idea what this is called to search for it (I searched "car shipping" but didn't get what I was looking for).
I live in WV and have a job interview for a position in CA on Thursday. I am looking at my options on getting my car over there (safely, obviously), but have no idea where to start. What do you guys suggest? Can you offer approx. pricing? Thanks! |

Are you headed up to the Bay Area? I figure that the costs might be roughly the same. You'll be looking at sub-$1000 for uncovered delivery. Pricing really boils down to how much of a rush you're in, etc. I remember it was a bidding process among drivers who were going certain routes, carrying lots of cars, and I had to find one with a price and timing that matched my needs. Good luck with your interview, and hope you come out to CA! |

Yeah, I'd road trip it myself. If you've never driven across the country, it's a great experience! Just make sure to plan some neat stuff along the way. I've done 5 trips across the country, and Dad found great ways to make it interesting for us. One year we followed the Oregon Trail and saw the landmarks, another year we followed the Lewis and Clark trail. Stuff like that can make it quite a bit of fun.

Ship your stuff and drive the car instead!
It's not often you get a chance to drive one-way from coast to coast and wind up at home. |

Definitely on the "Road trip" bandwagon.
![]() There's some gorgeous places in CA to drive, such as Pacific Coast Highway. Could be really nice before you start your new job. |

I'm another vote for road tripping, my friend was in the business of transporting cars for people and I've seen a lot of shady and bad business practices used by these companies (driving your car instead of towing it, damage, etc), it opens up your baby to a higher probability of something bad happening :\

If you have to ship your car, send me a PM. I shipped my old car three time (twice inoperational) and learned a lot about the process. The broker I used was great - I've recommended him a number of times and everyone has been happy with him.
