Custom Track pipe

Hey everyone,

I plan on making a track pipe and was wondering if anyone has done this. I was just going to unbolt the axle back, then make a cute before the muffler and before the tip, then just merge the two ends.

any suggestions?

So you'd replace the muffler with a straight pipe?

You'd have to make new hangers to reach the pipe, which would require some pretty accurate measuring. You'd also have to be careful with making sure your exhaust tips are aligned properly or it'll look goofy. If you are up for the challenge, then go for it, but maybe keep an eye out for if anyone is selling their stock axleback for cheap just in case you need it.

Personally, I would by the Berk dual muffler delete, which is basically what you are trying to make, but it's already pre-made and built with nicer materials than the stock exhaust. IMO I think the $300 or so is worth it to save yourself the trouble.

I am getting quoted next week. I plan on replacing my stock muffler with either a smaller muffler, resonator, or straight pipe, not sure yet but will decide after the quote. I also plan on getting new tips too. OR Tsudo has really good prices, so I might go that route not sure.

They have these already...just get a straight pipe if you have all other stock exhaust..
Nameless/can't think of the others but they are out there 80-110

I do understand they already make them and i'd love to get a berk, but I like to be cheap. plus i have a good friend thats a welder. The only thing im honestly worried about is lining up the tip with the cutout in the bumper. The hanger is easy. I also just hope I like the sound

To see if you like the sound, somply unbolt the muffler (2 14mm bolts/nuts) and try it out.

DO NOT drive like that at WOT / high speed.

You will melt partially your bumper and partially melt your reverse-light wiring. Ahem.

Also, I was going to do this, but did not want to sacrifice the stock muffler, and I'm glad I didn't.

You will want to put your muffler back on after one cruise on the highway with a testpipe.

BUT, if you do decide to hack up the muffler, (I ended up cutting off and using the 2-bolt flange to make my own muffler), if you look at the driver-side tailpipe, the actual piping goes about 10" into the muffler.

You can cut open the muffler and use that extra length to your advantage making your own test pipe. Also use the 2-bolt flange off the muffler itself.

But I promise you will regret hacking up your muffler to make a test pipe.

This is a picture of my setup:

MIDPIPE is shortened at the rear section by about 4" to allow for:

Muffler with everything I need to be civilized.

Not pictured is my good friend who's a welder :P

Nothing wrong with cheap and effective. I am very happy with my exhaust I invested $80 for muffler w/ silencer (for riding with my kids) and $60 for an insert to hush up any drone.

I went to a local muffler shop and had them make one for $50. Has a shiny tip and uses one hanger. For that price, I couldn't have made it myself. Easy to switch back and forth if you don't like it all the time.

It's loud, though a tad bit annoying. I'm very curious to see how a UEL header sounds with it. Had a delete on my STi and kept getting asked what exhaust I have...loved it.
