HELP! Should i go with this set up ? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Hello Everyone This Is My First Post

! And I Need Help ! I Just Got My Fr-s ! I Honestly Don't know were to start ... There Is So Much Parts Out For This Car .. But This Is What I Wanna Go With .

-Greddy Evo 3 Catback
-Greddy Intake
-Borla Headers UEL or EL ?! << idk which ones

-Ecutek Stage 2 Tune or UniChip ?? << idk which one either ..

Ive never done performance in my life .. ive done the whole bodykit , rims and ect ..

I honestly just want to the know what has greater power and what route to go with ... thanks so much guys !!!

I don't have first hand experience with any of these parts, but I've done enough research on here that I can tell you this:

- Greddy Evo 3: Definitely on the louder side of exhausts, pretty noticeable drone

- Greddy Intake: I wouldn't waste time with intakes right out of the gate. The stock intake was well designed, and there are very little gains to be had with aftermarket. You'd be better off just buying a drop-in filter and spending the money you would save elsewhere.

- Borla: Definitely one of the cheaper headers and the quality isn't as good as some of the competition, but many people on here seem to like it. Regardless, if you're looking for power while staying NA, upgrading the header should be your first step. Just know that the car will be incredibly loud if you buy an uncatted header and upgrade the rest of the exhaust (especially with an Evo3).

- Tune: Check out Shiv's Open Flash Tablet, it's gotta be the most user friendly tuning option out there right now.

My plan with this car is to fight off all my urges for bolt on and cosmetic mods

Save $ to go FI in the future. It is painful for me to do this so far but I know it will be worth it. I've made it 19 months, only gave in to wheels so far. ^_^

i dont know anything about open flash tablet .. is it like a plug and drive ?
also what headers should i go then ? i have not ordered any parts yet .. i honestly really like the sound of the evo 3 .. so i should also hold off on the intake ? if i get a drop in filter which one should i go with ? i also see the OEM intake is very well made ...

Header, drop in filter and a tune are going to be the best mods on an NA with most results shown.

I'd do:

Open Flash Tablet OFT - best horsepower for the money
Open Flash Header OFH - best header for the money
Drop in filter (K&N) - inexpensive, and several sources have shown consistent 5hp gain. Most intake system actually lose power on this car.
Mid to mild exhaust. Loud exhaust coupled with aftermarket catless header will likely be unbearable.

This combination has consistently shown the best performance increase with the FT86. Typical tuner upgrades don't apply to this car. Catbacks alone don't add power to the car. The intake and exhaust you just purchased very likely added no hp to your car.

You want the best performance for the least dollar? Well then. . .

Get a good header, Rev Works is on the cheaper side and better quality than Borla. I would recommend JDL UEL header just cause it is under 900 bucks(and not to out of reach). Nameless if you have the big bucks.

Buy the Nameless Catted OP/Frontpipe combo for 500 bucks new. Used is the best course. I bought my Motiv pieces used for around 350 combined. This isn't as important as the headers(which btw, you shouldn't skimp on), but it does a few hp here or there.

Catback. Invidia Q300, cheap, quieter and reduces rasp. Once again go used, just cause this isn't that important(gives least power if any). I found a Perrin catback for under 500.

Get OFT tune. Like 95% people(including me) you won't need the features ECUtek has. Plus its OTS tunes are better and it is cheaper! Plus it comes with E85 tunes!!

im just stubborned

besides i got some other frs buddys here in my town that would love to buy it from me lol .. im going to try the drop in filter tomorrow while i wait for the greddy intake to come in .. and ill see the difference in power ... im a big fan of greddy also .. so thats why i went ahead and got the intake
