steering wheel options.... WITH airbag - look inside!

soooooo I ruined my scion airbag recently. And got a great deal on a brz one, so now I'm rocking subie emblems on the interior and toyota on the outside... But anyways this evening it hit me, why didn't I look to see what the airbag charge looks like on an sti steering wheel. Even the older versions
Well it's not the same, BUT the mounting points look identical. And it still has the same style ground point.... if I didn't just spend similar money on my replacement airbag.... I would have looked into this more...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Subaru-Impre...3e7f56&vxp=mtr

Scroll down for the airbag mount. Some people may be skeptical about it as these are single charge and ours have dual charge. But that's based on speed of impact. but either way the bag will still open as designed if you swap our dual charged onto it. And the cruise should still mount to it as it's a typical subaru cruise control stalk

They can be had for a couple hundred bucks, wheel and bag in good shape

Just some food for thought... I might still try this

Ken

Edit: ninja bonus, swap that circular emblem out for momo or whatever takes your fancy if you have a toyota/scion

I pondered this for the longest time. I hate airbags. But in the unwanted event of an accident I can't see insurance paying out if I got injured as a result of removing standard safety equipment. And honestly I can't afford that risk.

Figured I'd put this out as an option for people looking for a different oem wheel which still retains an airbag.

Which hub did you go with, i'm a little anxious about installing mine. Do any wired need to be spliced or anything like that?

Do NOT swap an airbag from another car (or even the same car from another region) into yours. Airbag generations change every few years and the fold type for the bag, along with the ignitor, are unique to each model (even if the outer shape is similar or the same). Trust me, you do not want an air bag that doesn't deploy the way it was intended and snaps your head up or down in an accident. If you don't like the stock one, get proper seats, cage, and harness with an aftermarket steering wheel.

I understand this completely, and that prompted me this morning to remove the bag carefully from the back of the cover (seeing as my cover is shot, I have nothing to loose) after taking the charge off. The bag itself looks like it can be put into the "new" steering wheel. And if using the charge from the vehicle (frs/brz) it will deploy the same way.

it comes with a resistor to stop the airbag light, but everynow and then it still comes on, but i dont realy pay attention to it.

Im assuming this is just a visual thing?

JPM coach works will cover the OEM wheel and Cusco has a 350mm wheel that reuses the OEM airbag just as an fyi.
