Hit and run no witnesses help! WTB: oem wrb left fender

Title says it. Still drivable but my heart is in pain. I was wondering if i should bother with mercury insurance or file a police report since no one was around and no one responsible. Just the front left fender needs to be replaced.

Well heres the thing...

No two fenders are exactly the same. They've been exposed to different lights, different humidities... Etc. Etc.

If you file a police report with a hit and run, it will be under "comprehensive" insurance. Meaning your insurance rate won't go up.

In order to properly paint the fender, they will need to blend the hood and part of the driver door.

Pictures of damage?

I'd file a police report. If it was a drunk driver and he hit other vehicles you could catch a break although it is a long shot.

I was once the victim in a hit and run. Fortunately I roughtly remembered the other driver's license plate and the make/model/color of the car. I called 911 and a week later the police told me they caught the other driver, and the other driver didn't have insurance.

If you couldn't provide the police with any useful info (ie license plate, car description etc) then it's unlikely they can help you catch the other driver.

My Mazda fender got crunched in an accident a few years back. As N1rve mentioned, the repair shop wanted to blend the adjoining areas of the hood and driver door and charge me as much as possible. Since their paint would never be as good as factory paint, I didn't want to do that. I instead found a great place on the net that shipped me a painted fender after I sent them my paint code and the fuel filler door as a double-check. They shipped me the fender and fuel door back in a huge box and I paid a guy from that same repair shop to install the fender in my driveway. If the paint is not great long-term, I can have my fender repainted, and I haven't impacted the hood and driver door. (The "damage" is limited to the fender.) My paint color is black mica and it still looks great.

Sorry about the damage. You're lucky though that it's a fender and not a quarter panel. You have more options.

File a police report, and call your insurance ASAP.

I was told. Since insurance is in it for the money. They would find some other way (future claims) to charge me more and make their money back.

They operate a business after all, but I've never had them do that after comp claims before. I'm not up on my insurance laws but I'd guess there's probably some regulation in place.

If you don't want your rates to go up abnormally avoid tickets and accidents (that are your fault).

The only way I'd pay for it myself is if I drove the car into a tree or something. That insurance bill you already pay is for situations like this. You can always call your agent and ask them about it as well, you don't need to identify yourself.

This was straight up a hit n run on my parked car at night during a neighborhood party. It's an unavoidable circumstance that my own lawyer said not to bother with a claim. How do people get these problems handled properly!!!

Wasn't suggesting otherwise, just saying that the only way I'd pay for it is if I damaged it. Call your agent and explain what happened without identifying yourself. They should be able to explain what will happen if you were to submit a claim.

These problems get handled properly by letting the experts that you pay every month handle it. Insurance exists to handle these problems for you, there is a reason why you pay for comprehensive insurance.

Comprehensive claims do not raise your insurance rates. File it and have it fixed properly.
