2014 BRZ Limited Warranty Information

Hello everyone !

I'm a proud new owner of a 2014 BRZ limited! Got a sweet deal for it as well, $26,520 which isn't bad at all.

Main question and reason for this new thread: Is the 7 year 70K extended warranty necessary? I'm being told it doesn't have warranty so I have to purchase one. I'm sure that is where they're trying to get me to make that extra couple thousands, since the warranty itself is 3K.

Any insight and information would be greatly appreciated. Going to the dealer tonight to straighten some things out on the contract.

What do you mean it doesn't have warranty? A new BRZ has 3 years 60000km base warranty and 5 years 100000km powertrain warranty.

Yea it has a factory warranty...you should even have a booklet that came with the car.

Basic 3 year / 36,000 miles
Free Maintenance N/A
Drivetrain 5 year / 60,000 miles
Roadside 3 year / 36,000 miles
Rust 5 year / Unlimited mile

He's talking about purchasing the extended warranty.

I bought the 7 year extended warranty on mine. The price was very reasonable, and it covers any potential issues down the road. I felt it was a good idea since this is a brand new platform, you never know what may break down the road.

Basic/factory warranty vs extended warranty.

Ultimately this depends on your end goal and expected length of ownership. If you are of the variety to change cars every 3-5 years, an extended warranty makes it easier to sell the car later.

But if you are going to modify the car (especially engine), it won't be of much use as many things are changed out and subsequently won't be warrantied (or be covered under certain conditions).

I may ask for a refund on it, b/c I do plan on modifying the car, and thus the extended warranty would mostly be unusable at the point at which it kicks in to extended the factory warranty.

By the way:

You can always buy the extended warranty, and cancel it within 90 days for a full refund.
After that, it is pro-rated.

The refund will be a deduction of your remaining principal balance.

I laughed at them and explained that I was changing the suspension, installing a stereo, and turboing the car.. doesn't leave much for an extended warranty to cover. 3 weeks after I bought the car: she was turbo'd.

My view on extended warranties: they are there to make money. The company doesn't offer them to lose money. If they are there to make money, that means that they offer it in a fashion that is most likely beneficial to them.. meaning odds are you aren't going to make use of it. That said, for those that do make use of it.. of course it was worth it to them.

I'll void my warranty far before it expires, no use purchasing an extension!

Warranty for a Subaru? You already have one for three years, wait until after that time. then..Believe me, you'll get offers later in the mail -months later.

It's not worth it. Don't do it.

You buy it for a M3, but not on 86.

i got it, but i'm also planning on not going crazy with mechanical mods.

also of note-- it starts immediately, not after the factory warranty, but it covers everything the factory warranty wouldn't cover-- like say you hit a pothole and bend a wheel/blow out the tire-- towing and the new wheel/tire is covered, where it wouldn't be under the factory warranty.
