Rear end popping or clicking with tire spin
Hey all, with Mother Nature wreaking havoc on my area and my life.. The most recent bout of snow in southern illinois left me trying to get in my parking lot which seems like a mountain at this point. I tried to get up it a few times with traction control on and I noticed a clicking and or popping noise coming from the rear. It freaked me out some so I quit and left my car at a grocery store parking lot.
Mainly my concern is just if this is something to worry about or if its simply just the traction control engaging over and over. Hopefully someone can answer my question and let me breathe again!! =( Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It could be that the car is trying to gain traction...
or a clicking noise could be a broken axle |

The car has been babied the whole time I've had it. This is the second time the tires have spun. Not to mention it was on ice

My guess would be a CV joint on its way out. Take it to your dealer (with snow on the ground so you can replicate the situation). |

Wow, bunch of fear mongers in this thread.
It's probably just the sounds of the ABS braking the slipping tire... LOL. Turn TC off and see if it still makes the noise. |

I also feel pretty confident saying it's just the TC pulsing ABS or the diff clacking a bit from the ABS braking one wheel or the other. Are you lowered?
For peace of mind... If it was the axle you'd probably notice it in other situations. When the weather clears up, find a steep hill and accelerate to make the rear end squat more than normal. If you hear clicking, it may be a CV joint. If you hear nothing, you're fine. I expect you'll hear nothing out of the ordinary. |
