What's the hand signal for "You have your own lane idiot!"?
Just trying to understand a situation that just happened... no incident or anything, just odd behavior by another driver.
Reference the image below: ![]() So I'm waiting in the line of traffic at point A to turn left onto the feeder for the highway. About 4 vehicles ahead of me, with a first gen CRV directly in front of me. Light goes green and traffic goes, through making its turn in the intersection you can tell the CRV driver is slower than average, but not stupid slow. It is a two lane feeder until a merge later on. CRV driver actually turns into the right lane and stays in the right lane (wow a driver who actually picks a lane and doesn't ride the middle up to point B!). I stay left and accelerate to just in front of the CRV right before the start of the turn at point B on the dashed line (read as his front to my rear), there are the other cars ahead but they are pretty far ahead and not a concern for the turn. At the dashed line the CRV driver LAYS on the horn and keeps the horn down until around the merge starting point at C... What is up with this driver? Only two things I can think of for this reaction: 1: the driver was planning to ILLEGALLY change lanes and 'track out' without any signaling (but I was already in front) or 2: the driver thought "OMG someone passed me right before a turn...you bad bad 'reckless speeding manic' - nobody needs to go faster than the 35 mph suggested speed limit in a turn!"Merging onto the highway I was wondering what would be a good way to convey to clueless drivers 'you have your own lane, I have my own lane, and when going through turns everyone stays in their own lane' via hand signaling like you do for track days... don't think I could get into their mind and make them understand anything though.

Was this rant necessary? No hand signal needed. Just continue along and drive away...

Hopefully the CRV will find out eventually.
But,idiots will be idiots, best thing is just to learn to ignore them. |

The CRV driver needs to be either reeducated on the rules of the road and proper driving, I'm wondering what the best way could be to do that in a short instant. This is the first occurrence I've had like this in over 15 years of driving - most drivers here pretty much are the opposite of the CRV driver... can't stay in a lane but have no issue going faster in the turns. LOL

there's a lot of dumb people out there..... one time i needed to get into the right lane and to turn right
traffic was slow (about 10 kmph) i signaled, and changed lanes leaving at least 1-2 car lengths behind me so i don't cut the person off. then they lay on their horn for a long time. they must have thought it was dangerous? |

I use this hand signal sometimes if the moment presents itself...
![]() Usually for idiots in Mustangs and other cars that are revving wanting to race on public roads.

It was just so odd and unexpected having that CRV driver act that way after properly turning in and keeping in their own lane up to that point....I glanced in the rearview thinking "WTH???" as they were still on the horn and getting further and further back... This was not an idiot driver, but yet it was an idiot driver. I've had plenty of crazy idiot drivers do reckless stuff and honk because I'm 'holding them back' but no well mannered drivers do this before... if that makes any sense. I'm pretty sure the CRV driver is a case of a 'perfect' law abiding driver that can't stand people going 1 mph over the limit...

At least the CRV driver was just being an annoying horn-blower rather than driving foolishly or dangerously. Did you see who was driving? It does make a difference Lol!

Flip the birdy or beep at them. There is not courteous way of teaching someone how to drive while they are driving. Maybe shake your head at them?

Wow, I think I recognize that intersection. It's part of the Nasa bypass right?
I've ran into all sorts idiot drivers around there. Be careful and watch out, people don't see these small cars. |
