Smile Hot Wheels Scion FR-S Zamac Exclusive

Just Unveiled: Hot Wheels Scion FR-S Zamac Exclusive...
(Source: http://lamleydlm.blogspot.com/2014/0...cion-fr-s.html)

We have probably made it a little too clear that we are huge fans of the Walmart Zamac Exclusives. We rant and rave about how great they are just about every time we feature one.

So we will refrain. After we mention that Mattel has done a very good job of using a wide variety of models in the Zamac line. We have seen classics, muscle cars, exotics, and JDM, among others. Right as we speak, collectors are up to their necks in dump bins looking for a Brazilian muscle car, a classic muscle racer, and special version of the current Camaro, all with no paint.

Well it looks like that push towards variety continues with the unveiling of the first model in the next batch of Zamacs. Hot Wheels decided to go current and Japanese with the Zamac Scion FR-S.

A great choice, and it is nice to see this casting showing off a bit. But don't confuse the Zamac with the silver version hitting in Batch F. The difference is pretty clear:

The Batch F model is of course the "Now" to the AE86 Corolla's "Then" in the continuing "Then & Now" series, and it appears Zamac will have a counterpart as well. This artwork appears on Hotwheels.com yesterday:

This could mean we will see this AE86 as a Zamac, but more likely as a either an upcoming mainline release in silver, or a TRU color exclusive. If you remember last year, the Then & Now '70 Camaro appeared in silver with green stripes as a TRU exclusive, while the Camaro SS looked similar as a Zamac. This could be the case with this pair of 86's. We will probably find out soon enough...

What do the cards look like for the Zamacs?
Kind of hard to spot specific models at the bottom of an unsorted bucket.

Been a long time since I looked at a Matchbox. Compared to thew few "vintage" cars I have, has the the quality declined as much as it seems? The thing looks melted.
