My Quad Retrofit
So this is my first attempt at retrofitting and also my first attempt at doing a DIY writeup. Forgive me if it's a bit rough around the edges.
Giving credit where its due, I got my inspiration from @Gixxersixxerman's original quad retrofit post here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=862170. The items I used for the retrofit are as follows:
After everything was taken apart, I started to work with the Dremel tool. The back of the high beam reflector has a small hole. You will need to widen this hole large enough to fit the back of the Morimoto Matchbox projector in it WITH the bulb clip on. Test fit the projector to make sure of this, don't worry about how big the hole appears because it will be covered up by the shroud. Next, you should test fit the shroud on the Matchbox projector, I realized that the shroud needed a little bit of trimming to fit inside the reflector without stretching the housing. After everything is test fit properly, go ahead and paint the housings and the shrouds. I blacked mine out. From here, make sure that everything is aesthetically to your liking, and then mount the Morimoto Retro-Quik projectors to the housing. Make sure that everything is aesthetically to your liking. I opted to wire everything up so that I can use the inner projectors as low beams, as well as high beams. I chose to mount the relay harnesses to the inside of the fender well on the passenger side. The ends of the relays with the fuse boxes attached will go to the positive terminal on your battery. then you have two wires with grounds attached that will go to your ballasts. You will notice that two are significantly longer than the other two. Use the shorter length wires for the passenger side, and the longer length ones to the driver side. ![]() ![]() ![]() On the passenger side, use the existing harness for the H11 low beam to connect the H11 to 9006/9006 splitter. This will allow for all 4 projectors to be used as low beams Connect the two 9006 ends to the wires on the relays without a ground. For the two 9005 DRL/high beam harnesses on both sides of the car, attach the 9005 to 9006/9006 high beam splitters. This allows for the 4 projectors' bixenon flap operations for high beams. Here is the wiring guide for the quad setup. http://www.theretrofitsource.com/diy...ing-guide.html I tucked away the wires as best as I could along the undersides of the frame, zip-tying them in place. I mounted my ballasts behind the front bumper. I then mounted the headlight assemblies to the car for the alignment. I used this guide from TRS to complete this. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTvhyH8dlFc"]TRS Tips: Mounting and Aligning Projectors in a Headlight Retrofit - YouTube[/ame] ![]() After that is finished, you are almost done! Clean everything up one last time and then bake your headlights back together! Mount the completed headlight assemblies to the car and put the bumper back on! Enjoy! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Much thanks to The Retrofit Source for answering a lot of my silly questions, and for providing me with the video and a wiring schematic! Again, I apologize for the very amateur write up, this is a first for me. I wish that I had taken more pictures of the process. For my first ever retrofit, I don't think it turned out too bad. |
