Here's the forum post from camaro5 by the owner.

Nice to see it's getting some more publicity. Absolutely amazing how they're treating this poor guy.

Dealership should just swallow the cost of a new ZL1 for the guy and call it a day. Then sue the (former) employee, going after him for criminal charges is pointless and stupid.

I work in a warranty service department and if we ever lost or damaged customer property, it was an automatic brand new replacement. No one here even bats an eye. We will find out why it happened in the first place and correct/amend but we wouldn't have any second thought about what should be done period.

The dealership has insurance, they'd only be losing out on the cost of depreciation between the insurance payout and a new one, and they'd still be getting the kickback from Chevy for selling another car.

If I was in the owner's position I'd just take the insurance money and run far far away from that dealership after the first refusal to make things good, a lack of respect for customer property isn't a lone gunman mindset and is only proven more and more the longer this goes on.

I've been following this since the day it happened on Camaro5. I can't believe how poorly this dealership has handled it and I really hope that couple gets a new ZL1 for their troubles.

You can tell from their posts that it was really devastating to them

Unbelievable. The dealership needs to be more sympathetic to the customer and be more willing to provide what they request, within reason of course. Its not the owners fault that they (dealership) totaled his car. To offer a car that they represented as being a single-owner, accident free car is BS. They need to step up to the plate, offer him either a lower-mileage version and/or provide him with a new model.

What I don't understand is why are the Hoopers continuing to pay for a car that has been totaled? I'd assume they'd pay off the loan once the vehicle was declared a total loss. If anything, I'd request the dealership to pay the car note until a deal has been made.

Because they haven't been compensated?

I realize that but why not? I'd assume the original loan needs to be fulfilled and deal with the new loan for the next car when the time comes. Unless they're going to simply revise the current contract to reflect the new vehicle information? I've never been in this position but curious how the financial part would/is going to work out.

Stupid, stupid, stupid dealership. The lost business from the bad publicity is easily going to cost them more than it would to make it right for this guy.

I'm not surprised.. Lots of shitty dealerships out there. I really feel for them.

Similar story I've repeated in the past, probably a few times in the board. I took my VW in for a CEL and the tech crashed it pulling out of the parking lot. Not totaled, no, but definitely lost value because of the accident. The dealership said "ok we'll fix it and you can have it back." Wrench in there is that I was getting ready to trade it in before the CEL went off. Then the manager was a **** about the whole thing and extremely patronizing when I said I wanted some sort of compensation for diminished value.. Unfortunately found out you can't legally obtain diminished value in SC. So I sold them back the car for probably less than I should have, but after a month of dealing with the shit I was ready to wash my hands of it. Fuckers lost my business forever, and I'll gladly relay the story to anyone looking to buy a VW in the upstate. I wasn't even ever given an apology for them crashing my car. That was almost 5.5 years ago and it still pisses me off to this day.

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh

Reading stuff like this just really pisses me off.

To me, what would be fair is...give him a new Z28 Camaro and just have him finish paying off whatever he owed on the original Camaro.

My mom a long time ago bought a "New" Nissan Sentra with like 30 miles on it. She thought it had just had a test drive.

Had nothing but problems with it...

One day it died and my StepDad took it to an independent mechanic to have them look at it. They found that it had been totaled and the frame had to be straightened.

My StepDad had that Sentra towed back to the dealership and said that he would take a new Sentra now (it was about 3-5 years old...I was young when this happened). He threatened to sue them and ripped them for taking advantage of a single Mom.

Anyway they gave us new Sentra that was better than the original one and were very apologetic. Also it turned out that particular manager did not work there anymore and had been fired a couple years earlier for pulling this type of thing.

Anyway...hate seeing stealerships do that type of shit.
