Master cyl brace doesn't seem to make a difference?
My buddy installed a Perrin master cyl brace on his STI and it made a huge difference in brake feel so naturally I got one for my BRZ. I got the Grimmspeed one at a good deal and installed it last night. It did'nt feel any different so when I got home I adjusted it and put a good deal more pressure on the master cyl and still dont feel much difference. Grimmspeed makes outstanding products so I don't beleive its an issue with their brace and im kind of scared to tighten it more. Maybe because our car doesnt have such a hefty master cyl the difference isnt as noticeable? Anyone have any experience with this?

I noticed an immediate improvement with my GS master cylinder brace. All brake components are still stock.
Upgrading pads and fluids soon. |

there is a lot goes into stiffing the brake system than just MC brace. there are a few things you need to consider here.
1. our cars have relatively small brakes and our car is light. thus the braking force enacting on the rotor will be relatively low compare to larger cars like STI. as with any force there is an equal and opposite reaction. when the initial forces is low, your reaction forces will also be low. 2. did you have SS brad brake hose installed? if not the deflection force of the firewall may be transfer into the additional expansion of the stock brake hoses. 3. did you brake under extrime condition? without the high load, the benifit may now show under street driving condition I have a MC brace from my AEM strut bar. to be honest, I really cant tell the difference, keep in mind that i also have stock hoses. |

I'm all stock on the brakes other than the brace. Mike, how much thread is left on the front side of your brace? I might just need to tighten it more.

I can yank on the whole brace and there is no movement at all. Realistically though, I'm not sure what advantages you are expecting but you can expect a firmer pedal and less brake "travel" needed to stop the car. All in all, just a more confident feeling brake pedal. It's not necessarily going to improve stopping power per se, but it will feel like it.

Try flushing your brake fluid and replacing it with fresh fluid. I have the Perrin MCB, and can tell when the fluid needs replacing.

Keep in mind that you're not supposed to go gorilla on the brace when tightening it. It's meant to be there to prevent movement/flexing, not exert excessive pressure. When I installed mine, I snugged it up and then gave it another 1/2-3/4 turn and it's been fine ever since.

It makes a bigger difference in hard braking. What kind of braking do you do: slowing down for a red light or slowing down from 100mph for a corner?

I would suggest testing the feel with the engine off while stationary. That way you are getting no booster assistance and you can feel any flex better from just your "foot power".

Get a friend to help, get them to step on the brakes and see if you can see the MC move any more. If you can, it's probably not pre-loaded enough.

The day I put it on, I felt an immediate response. It feels infinitley better when braking now. I still have stock lines, pads, and fluids. When I installed it, In was on Hankooks RS-3s (225/45/75, stock size wheels). Felt much more confidence coming into high speed corners and I didn't have to put the brake to the floor to slow the car down....unfortunately it's illegal for autocross
