Problems with Kenwood DDX470

Just picked this up and having a few issues with it. The first issue may be causing the second, but basically I can't get the firmware to update. It says to download the file, unzip, and load it via a USB thumb drive. It's two files within a folder and it has to be in the top hierarchy. I've tried the individual files and nothing else on the drive, I've tried the folder and nothing else on the drive, I've tried both USB ports. Every time it says "checking" the light flashes on the USB stick, and then it says Please Insert Upgrade USB" or something. The USB drive continues to blink, but there's no on-screen indication of what's going on.

There's another problem with the iPod interface, in which playlists are being played alphabetically instead of in the order of the playlist itself. I took a quick video to demonstrate what I mean. Whatever song you pick, it plays the song that would alphabetically be in that spot instead. Weird.....

Any thoughts?

How is the flash drive formatted? Fat32 or NTFS? Might make a difference, but just a guess.

Got the upgrade figured out. Apparently you have to use a specific USB port and it doesn't like you using the convenient one.

Other issue with iPod playlists still there... :/

I should add, I'm using an old 1st gen iPod Nano. Perhaps the old nanos have issues with sending data this way? I don't know. I tried switching to my old cable, and it had no sound (this deck needs the dual cable), and it worked fine with my roommates newer iPod. So I guess an upgrade is in order....
