exercising question for healing injury
So back in july i broke my ankle and had surgery. Now it's december and i still cant really run (it looks like im galloping like a horse). Should i just tough it out and start exercising, ie weights and running? No i didn't go to physical therapy; and i know for my lower body i need to start very slow. Just looking for some advice on this.

Go see your doctor and see what they say. Depending on the break, it could have had long term impact and you will likely need a chiropractor or therapy to get it anywhere near 100%. Ankles are tricky, I never truly recovered 100% from my nasty sprain - my right ankle has more degree of motion and I learnt to be cognizant that it can now resprain easier.

Google ankle therapy exercises and do those. I had my shoulder rebuilt last year and did what my surgeon had on website. I'm at 85% just over a year doing it myself.

my cousin had the same break/surgery as i did. Both tibia and fibia, and he went to PT and all that. We both have the same range of limited motion on our ankle, so i just realized that i probably just gotta deal with it. Idk after my first weight session ill see how it goes

I shadow at a clinic and from my experience you should really go to the doctor and from what I've seen you might need to go to physical therapy.

don't rush into anything. I dislocated my left shoulder about 15 times. and sprained my right ankle so that the peroneal tendon pops out sometimes.
my ankle probably took over a year and a half to 2 years until it started to feel normal. but ligaments are crappier than clean breaks. my physiotherapist got me to do a bunch of exercises. my favorite ones are I stand on a balance board, and to lightly jump on a bosu ball with the injured foot. this trains the muscles to strengthen and react to unevenness, preventing further injury. and by jumping on the bosu ball, it's more of a "hop". stand with the bosu ball infront of you, with your injured foot, lightly jump on it and land on the other wise of the ba. repeat. I found that exercise helped me a lot |

Go see your Orthopedic Dr. and see if everything is "right". I shadowed at a hand full of OT/PT clinics and it seems to me like once you know what is broken/wrong then you "could" try and rehab it on your own, but still not recommended if you don't have a lot of knowledge or exp in the field. Getting it diagnosed is the part that should really be done professionally.

I'm surprised we don't have a fitness/weightlifting thread on this forum.
