1st gear problems?

Anybody else randomly have a hard time putting it into first gear? Like it catches on something's or there's rubber blocking it? Sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't for days. Also very very less often going into second? No other gears have that problem? Someone help!!!

You might try putting it into reverse before you put it into first, if the transmission is cold ......

No, mine doesn't have that problem.

I've never had a problem. I don't down shift into first gear unless I'm just barely moving.

Sometimes reverse gear stubborn, and will have to go in 1st come back to center then reverse. My accord did this also. Sticky 1st would concern me a little, that second gear concerns me more. I'd have service take a look .

With 4.10 gears on a manual, 1st gear is so short that downshifting to it isn't a good idea. Never had a problem going into first. If in ever rolling above 5 mph, I'm always in 2nd.

I also don't recommend down shifting into 1st much above walking . Be kind to your synchronizers.

You can always double de-clutch to get back into first easier.

I've noticed that when it's cold out and the engine is still cold, I occasionally have to double clutch when downshifting into 2nd or 1st gear. If I approach a stop and don't feel like double clutching, I have to come to a full stop (0 mph on the dash) in order to get it smoothly into first. 2nd gear almost always grinds a tiny bit when upshifting into 2nd for the first few times also.

Grinding when up shifting into 2nd, Even when cold is not right. Like clutch isn't fully disengaging. Better have it checked.

I wonder about the clutch as well.

So many people report having issues with shifting probs in different gears, I wonder if the issue lies within the clutch and not the transmission.

If the pressure plate didn't retract enough, or the clutch disk wasn't perfectly flat (poor design or manufacturing), it would do exactly what everyone is reporting.

When I first purchased the FRS I thought I had air in the clutch line which may have been true because one day the clutch feel firm and the issues reduced. As they still were happening I took it to the dealer many times and go rejected when I asked them to inspect the internals of the transmission to check if there is a problem anywhere. Long story short they did a fluid change after many visits and that helps.

Get an fluid change and let the car warm up. Speaking that its been about 0 degrees this month in minne-snow-da I let my engine get at least to the cold mark before even moving the gears. It still has some trouble from time to time but just tap it quick into second and back to first with no issues. Also I think people are wrong to baby this transmission. As the temp range and tolerances are mostly for warmer climates as I am suspecting more and more the more wear and frequent fluid changes during the warranty period are a good way to cut the gears and get the easy feel back.

Take it or leave it, its my own thoughts but I can get into every gear now very smoothly and first gear easily while at even 15mph with the OEM fluids everyone hates ( Yes some people think thats bad).

Just found this on Aisin website I laughed!
