REVIEW | Raceseng UPM (Universal Plate Mount)

I bought the @Raceseng UPM (Universal Plate Mount) last week, after realizing that this had came out recently. I previously purchased their Tug View tow hook/GoPro mount, so the tug shaft that is needed for install was already on the car.

The details on the product can be found on the Raceseng website, here's my install pics:

Some thoughts:
  • You get what you pay for: this is over twice as expensive as the Grimmspeed kit, but the build quality is more than that.
  • Very solid construction. With the bolts tightened down, the plate mount is not movable with normal force.
  • Speaking of force, the way this is designed is beautiful. It's an outrageously simple design, yet allows almost any type of license plate angle to be achieved.
  • Lastly: this is less prone to nuts/bolts loosening than the Grimmspeed design.

This is great, have you noticed anything since install? I'm considering buying this.

I mean, a license plate relocator that also can do a GoPro at the same time .. it looks like you have to swap remove the license plate for the GoPro mount to work in this case. Or did I get it wrong, GoPro can still go mount on with the license plate on..?? haha I'm confused

That wouldn't be very ideal, you're looking at a backplate that has the GoPro mounted far away from the anchor point. It would introduce a lot of vibration and make it useless.

I got this UPM because it gives me a quick way to swap out to the GoPro mount:

Ah I see what you mean. So basically if I got these two items:

http://www.raceseng.com/upm-universal-plate-mount
http://www.raceseng.com/tug-view-tow...r-s-subaru-brz

I would essentially be able to do a quick swap between 'license plate' and 'tow hook + GoPro' mode, say in a parking lot or something? I assume you need to remove the license plate itself off the UPM before the UPM can be removed? At least that's how the grimm speed works, removal of the license plate off the plate holder first, then removal of the plate holder, then the shaft that goes into the bumper.

Quick is an understatement.

Once you've set the GoPro mount and the license plate mount orientation properly, every time you remove/install the different mounts you will end up at the proper position for either GoPro or the license plate.

The Raceseng mount allows you to twist the entire plate holder (with plate) off, and you won't lose the position you set. This is assuming you installed the shaft with Loctite as the instructions mandate.

So far I've changed my plates/GoPro mount about 10 times, it gets easier and easier to do.
